Chapter 53: Escaping From The Assassin

"If you want an example look at me, I was a low-rank D hunter without a future but joining them let me gain power I couldn't have ever imagined. Think about how you are already this strong how much stronger you will get if you join us?"

Hearing his words, one may seem so sweet but Jayven didn't budge as he continued to step back little by little.

And wanting to buy more time he talked to him.

"I don't know about that, seems sketchy to me if you ask. I bet you have to pay a huge price for that power. And I bet it isn't that easy either.

"Oh, you're right. what I paid wasn't much though."

"Is that right?"

"Yes, I just had to kill five members of my family and that was that, now I have this strength."

"You sick bastard!" The one who yelled wasn't Jayven but one member of the group pulled him back stop.

"Don't worry I hated them so it was a small price to pay."

"Even so-!"

"Stop! You know you're no match for him, right?"

"But-."

"Please."

Although he stopped the guy still felt anger towards the assassin Crazy Blade. Good thing the girl who pulled him back made him come back to his senses.

"Heh, what do you know? Power is everything in this world. you see what happened earlier, those high-ranking guys left the weak for power if you don't take your chance then it is gone forever. So, what is it do you want power or be dead like the good Samaritan you are?"

He then mocked Jayven and the group, for not seeing it from his perspective.

"One more thing." As his back reached the wall Jayven asked something to the guy.

"What?"

"Your target is me, right?" reaching his arms to the wall Jayven asks something about the reason for his attack.

"Yes, you are right I planned to convince the higher-ups for you to join and fake your death after that we are brothers. But now I guess it is a different outcome."

"As expected, ever since you got close to me, I had my suspicion."

"I guess that's to be expected I am not good at convincing others, but I see a good future in you. So, this is your last chance boy. What is your choice, power or death?"

"I chose the third option." Not missing the beat Jayven pushed a trap bottom.

Following that the three fell to the trap hole and with it, the trap closed in a fast motion stopping the Crazy blade from following them down.

"That cunning kid what did he do? Was it this?

Trying to get to them he tried to press the switches but nothing seemed to work. He even tried destroying the floor but to no avail.

"Shit that kid escape, from the looks of it the trap can only be activated once. Wait this is still a dungeon so either way I can hunt him down before I get caught.

He tried to rationally think of a way to solve his current predicament.

And after thinking for a few minutes, he finally made a choice.

"I guess I need to go for the innocent act this time. Or if I am lucky, he will die there. For now, I need to play and show an act for those people."

Saying that he left the place arriving at the camp with a tattered look. Which is different from what he was a few minutes ago.

~~~~~~~~~
Falling down the trap the two people with Jayven screamed in fright. But as for Jayven he already experienced this so with a few movements he got hold of the two.
'Shoot we are falling is this a trap that kills you?' Feeling that the fall is not yet ending Jayven thought of the possibility of this hole being different from what he expected.
'Either way, we need to survive this.' "Get a hold of me you two."
"Okay."
"Yes."
Holding on to him hard, Jayven took out two knives and stabbed them on the wall as he tried to slow down their fall.
And during the process, he had to use multiple knives to change every few minutes of falling.
'I bought hundreds of D-rank knives just to be sure but I guess I need to buy a new one later.'
And after wasting about four pairs of knives, luckily enough their fall slowed down a bit, and not long after the ground was getting clear to see.
After reaching the ground Jayven looked at the area around him and thought. 'My hunch was right this is a hidden passage.'
Relieve he remembers the time he found about the control room in the maze mansion. So, when he looked carefully, he noticed the trap was in a hidden place to activate.
And with his experience with the traps, he understood that this is not how a trap should be placed,
'I guess this bet is my win huh?'
Putting down the two they tried to assess their situation, as they looked at the place they were in.
"Woah what is this place?"
"I didn't expect the pit to lead this place how did you know?"
"Yeah, how?"
They were surprised by the current situation and after looking around for a bit more the two then asked Jayven. To which he replied.
"I just saw the switch in a weird place that's all."
"Really?"
"Yeah, normally you would put a trap switch to a place that kills your enemy somewhere they can activate. But the switch was well hidden it might as well be a secret passage. And for it being a pit might be because it has just formed."
"Oh, so that's why."
"I understand now."
Hearing Jayven's explanation cleared their minds of some questions. And so they asked another one.
"By the way, do you have any experience hunting in a dungeon?"
Curious the girl asked Jayven about his experience in a dungeon.
"No, but I have some similar experience with traps."
"Oh, I see."
'Well facing that mansion of traps and confusing paths how can I not have any experience in this thing? But this leads to something different though.'
"Well for now it is better if we look for a place to rest this is not a safe place to stay."
Jayven said as he saw the wide space around them.
"Yeah, you're right."
"By the way, what is your name?"
Curious the guy with them asks about Jayven's name.
"My name is Jayven."
"Oh, Jayven huh my name is Clark Day I plan to be a hunter after getting enrolled here."
"Mine is Clara Day I am an aspiring alchemist."
"Oh, nice to meet you."
'I really don't understand why she needs to be here.' Jayven had this mind as she looked at Clara.
In this situation, the alchemist shouldn't be included in this job. This girl already helped them secure food.
But she was persistent which led to her joining Jayven's group. But this also made Jayven question that it might be because of their relationship since they share the same last name.
"Oh, are you guys' siblings?"
"No, we are cousins we were kind of born in the same year though."
"Yeah, it sucks because it is the same month too the only saving grace is that it is not the same day."
"Hey, that's mean just because you are a girl doesn't mean you could say that."
"Yeah, yeah."
The three continued to explore the place a bit more looking for a place to rest. Along the way, they would encounter monsters and other rare resource material.
It wasn't long till they found a shelter to hide from monsters.
~~~~~Back at the cave~~~~

Currently, the assassin Crazy Blade arrived at the cave where the civilians and a few hunters took shelter. And with his get-up, he fooled the group along with some excuse.

Which is pretty convincing due to the wounds inflicted on him by his own actions to cover up most of his acts.

"Are you alright?"

"Yeah, I can still move although I feel sorry for the three."

"Don't worry we will find them and maybe we will get lucky enough and save them."

"I hope so. Kohoh kohoh."

"Heh! So, this is where you guys were."

Then as the group was resting, they tended to Crazy Blade's wound.

The group from before arrived back and this time they were clearly injured from their so-called dungeon hunting.

"This place is nice."

"What nice this is just bearable."

"What are you guys doing here?"

"Yeah, weren't you guys going to conquer the place?"

Upon their arrival, they looked at the cave the civilians were taking shelter in and gave some comments about the place.

"Shut up!"

Not taking their words kindly the higher-ranking hunter of the civilians' protector group told them to stop them from talking bad about the place.
