Chapter 63: Struggles And Victory

"Get into formation and protect the civilians!"

The man who took the lead in protecting the civilians acted back as the leader as he instantly commanded everyone from the monsters saving the civilians' side.

And upon hearing this command everyone moved to protect the civilians even those who weren't hunters, making a wall that protected everyone from the monsters' attacks.

"Heh, you think you can save them like that, then think again. The halberd using man said as he raised his halberd aiming it at the civilians."

But when the halberd-using guy tried to attack everyone, he was stopped the wasn't able to since Jayven blocked his attack before he could even swing it.

'I don't know why but I felt dread the moment he raised the halberd as he aimed it at us no matter what it was, I needed to stop it.'

The halberd-using man was so shocked by Jayven's sudden intervention that he took a few steps back to distance himself from him.

"You blocked my cursed energy, that's impossible. Although my weapon is just a prototype of a cursed artifact you shouldn't be able to handle its curse energy even if you have demon blood in you."

"Cursed energy what's that? Is it different from Mana or Ether?"

"You don't know? Then how did you negate it? It is the most powerful ability of all!"

"I don't what you're babbling about but I need to get this over with." Not caring about his situation Jayven continued to attack the man.

"You brat, Hiyah!"

The battle between the two continued and as it went on it became even more intense. 

As the man continued to attack Jayven, he noticed that the energy he produced dissipated to a certain direction and when he looked at where it headed, he realized what was happening

"Hoh, so it was you, made took down one of us." He said as he relaxed his tempo of attacks different from before when he was rowdy.

'Is he talking about the guy with the Crazy Blade?' Thinking it was the other guy with Crazy Blade he talked back and spoke. "What of it?"

"Then that means you have it, don't you? The cursed artifact."

Hearing that understood what was happening. "So, you people were after the cursed artifact all along. Then that means you guys are from the group demon activist."

"That's right so hand it over." As he said the halberd-using man increased his number of attacks.

"No way!" Jayven yelled as he gave an attack of his own. 

But because of his wave of attacks, Jayven had no choice but to dodge and deflect the attacks as his weapons were easily destroyed from direct contact.

The battle ensued between the two groups but it was getting disadvantageous for Jayven and the others.

'These guys don't have much difference against the guys from before but due to wasting my stats earlier, I can muster much strength against them. Also, that halberd, he said its a prototype of a cursed artifact. it's strong and I kept getting goosebumps as he tried to direct it to the civilians, what should I do?'

"What's this you are so weak How can you be able to fight against one of our people and defeat him? Your strength is pathetic and laughable!"

With a crazed expression, he continued to taunt Jayven as he kept on destroying his weapons

"Tch, like I care about that!" Jayven answered back as he kept pushing through from the onslaughts of attacks.

"That's true what is important right now is to get this over with and get the cursed artifacts. With that, he gave an even heavier blow to Jayven which he took directly as it passed through his weapons."

Jayven started to get beaten down and so did the hunters as well due to monsters starting to overwhelm them.

'What should we do?' Even as he took his enemy's hits Jayven didn't relent as he gave his all in the fight thinking of a way to win.

And as Jayven and the others were in the midst of their defeat a gunshot was heard. 

"What the-?"

And to everyone's surprise, the halberd-using guy took the blow which caught him off guard and wounded him on the shoulder.

"Why you!" To think there is one more that is alive your dead. Not being able to think straight he faced the guy who shot him and momentarily forgot about Jayven.

"Not if you die first."

"EH?"

Not missing the chance Jayven made a full-blown attack, using Phenex's ability to raise his stats. So with that opening, Jayven gave it his all in attacking with his fists.

"Gahah! Y-you bastard!" The halberd-using guy got even angrier as he was bombarded with Jayven's and because of this, he wasn't able to react on time.

Even as he raised his halberd, he couldn't muster the strength thanks to the injury he received from the shot.

Not long after the battle ended the halberd-using guy's neck was torn off by Jayven.

"You…" Looking at Jayven with hatred the man lost consciousness as he lost colors.

I was worried that using this in prolonged battle would be a disadvantage but that opening saved me from the trouble. "Thank you."

Jayven said to the guy who shot the gun to his enemy. To which he also replied.

"No problem, ugh."

"Don't push yourself using an elemental gun with that state will be draining especially the output you have done earlier."

"I understood so hurry up."

"Okay."

Understanding what he meant Jayven ran fast as he assisted the other hunters in fighting the monsters.

And with the use of the halberd, the battle ended quickly, leaving only the tamer.

"Shit that guy is down I need to leave." As he said that he summoned more monsters as he tried to leave

The monsters he summoned although more aggressive and numerous than before clearly made for his escape. So, with no choice, everyone tightens their defenses.

"Yes. Take good care of them boys' bye." As he said that he summoned a fast monster and he ran as far away as he could. But he wasn't able to run far enough as Jayven easily caught up to him.

"Not so fast."

"Kugh gahah gahah. S-stop p-please. Having caught by the neck the man struggled as he pleaded for mercy."

"Not a chance demon activist."

"You are like us. You are also of a demon lineage you can't do this. Please have it in your hear to-"

As he said that he struck out a knife to Jayven's neck realizing this he activated Phenex's ability recreation, which melted the knife.

"How could that be that was also a prototype from a cursed artifact unless the cursed artifact is that on your neck."

"That's right, now let's end this."

"No wait please I won't do it again I prom-."

With a sawing using the halberd, Jayven ended the life of his enemy not making him spout his last sentences.

"Sorry, but I don't want to take my chances."

With that, the battle finally ended which made everyone sigh in relief. 

"Are you guys, okay?"

After killing the tamer Jayven then asked if everyone was okay. To which they reply positively

"Yes, we're fine."

"A little tired but we are still living."

"No worries although they are injured, we can patch things up."

"Are any of the civilians hurt."

"There are, but we used some healing potions for it."

"Then the budget for that one would be on me," Jayven said as he thought that everyone might have financial trouble from the battle.

"Hey don't say that."

"Yeah, we can handle the loss."

"That's true."

"Plus, you worked the hardest from all of us here.'

"Sorry, that came out of nowhere."

"Don't worry everyone maybe we can be rewarded for this instead."

"Oh yeah, we did become heroes."

"Yeah, it feels great, isn't it?"

"Well enough of chit chatting we need to contact the ambulance. We don't know what will happen if there is an unknown defect due to the battle."

"That's right, I'll contact them."

"We already did."

"It is not much but we will try to also help."

"""Thank you everyone."""

Facing the civilians, the hunter was surprised but knowing the trouble they went through they knew it was genuinely what they felt.

"Good, we were going after this. Everyone rest up."

"""Yeah!"""

With that everyone waited for the ambulance to arrive as they did their own thing as they rested.

~~~~~At the rooftop of the building near Jayven and the others~~~~~~

On a certain building, a bunch of corpses were piling up and two individuals were the cause of this.

"To think he got strong this fast is quite shocking. Chris, what do you think?"

"This is already a feat unimaginable to someone like him who is still at the mana intent stage and has only his second awakening."

"Right, I made the right choice choosing him. Look at how he defeated those A-rank fighters and they even have a mana core. Not to mention that weapon."

"To think they have cursed weapons and what did he say the strongest energy? It just has different properties as Ether that's all."

"That goes to show how far they have brainwashed their people."
