Chapter 65: Internal Damages

Seeing the other old man come in Jayven who they were and pieced the puzzle together.

'Eh weren't they the two who said they went to jail due to illegal trafficking and isn't the officer's father the one who got cheated on?'

As Jayven was still thinking about the time, he first arrived in Decagon City the officer took a few scolds from his father. 

After a few minutes of scolding and reminding the officer the two old men left and then the officer deflated from the scolding.

"I am going a get a huge beating from her."

"Haha, that also happens to me and my in-laws."

"Is married life that hard?"

Unconsciously Jayven asked as he saw their reaction.

""You have no idea.""

Hearing this Jayven stopped asking and changed the topic.

"Oh yeah, I think I saw those two old men before, your father and uncle."

"You did when?"

"It was during my first arrival in this city I heard them talking about the time they got caught doing something while your father was also included, even though he wasn't part of it."

"Oh, that." He said in a low voice.

Noticing this Jayven suddenly thought he did something bad.

"Sorry about that if you don't want to talk about it you can just not say anything."

"No, it's okay. And guessing from your reaction you must have heard of it."

"Yeah, about your mother's action."

"Oh, what happened tell me?"

With that, the officer started his story.

"It all happened when my uncle needed money, he wanted to take care of his niece due to the absence of her parents."

"And this niece is now your wife?"

"Yes, so my father helped my uncle since they were friends by birth as they say. But what they didn't know was that they were delivering contraband so they got arrested."

"Wait at that time I heard from my father that the rumors of those who got in jail bring stock there forever."

"Yes, that was rampant at that time which was false since both my dad and uncle were free the next day and were compensated properly since they didn't sign any documents during the exchange of goods."

"But what about his wife, your mother?"

"Well like he said the rumors about that jail were rampant and upon hearing the news my mother or should I say former one took hold of the house kicking me his son."

"That's insane."

"I know, but apparently, my younger brother was the son of another man. The man hearing the situation took advantage of my former's mother feelings and tried to sue my dad."

"So that's how he learned the truth."

"Well, I ran to the jail and told him along with my wife to see the two."

"OH, I see so were close since you were kids."

"Childhood sweetheart huh?"

"Enough of that. I told my father what happened and with me as the witness and favor from the officials he won the case and my former mother left the city with then now current husband after they paid. Even until now, we haven't heard from them."

"That was a nice payback."

"I guess. But I was glad I had some company to go there if not I wouldn't have had the courage to tell Dad the truth."

He smiled as he thought about how he bravely faced the scary place in the stories of the jail from before.

Although relieved about what happened Jayven saw loneliness in his face. Maybe he did miss her mother and something just happened for her to change or she took her mask off entirely.

It made Jayven wonder how it felt to have real family the pain, the joy, the arguments, and support hearing from the officer's mouth he felt a tinge of jealousy.

"Since we are bragging about each other's love life I will tell mine."

"I'm not bragging."

"I kind of don't have a significant other."

"It's the same thing. And sorry about this kid. Anyway, my wife."

Then he started talking about his wife how they met and how great she was. Completely disregarding Jayven's envious fate.

'This is torture if not then what is this? But at the same time, I felt glad we were alive.  I wonder what would have happened if I didn't find that secret passage. Or if I didn't challenge the dungeon?'

Looking back from the previous events he thought of many possibilities if he didn't make that move or if the situation didn't permit him to.

'But one thing for sure I did great and everyone was saved.'

"And earlier she was so cute as she announced that we were having a child."

'Yeah, I am still jealous, but happy all the same, I wonder if I can have these moments that they talked about. But that is highly unlikely since I am focused on training right now.'

--------A few days later---------

After the ordeal a few days passed and Jayven was then told that he could get discharged so he did. And after saying his goodbyes to everyone he left the room and got back to the Maze mansion.

And upon returning he was met with the people he had been waiting for.

"What's up kid miss me."

"Hello, Jayven."

"Master, Miss Chris?"

He was surprised as he saw his master and Miss Chriss waiting at the entrance. Which meant they knew exactly what he had experienced.

But wanting to be cool he asked the reason for their late arrival.

"So, what took guys you so long the entrance test is about to happen you know?"

"Actually, it was extended and from the looks of it, a lot of countries were affected by the new rampage they were doing."

"Eh? How long is it going to take before I can take the exam?'

"A month maybe? They are still assessing the damages and the news about it will be shown by the end of the week."

"I see." Upon knowing this Jayven learned that he has ample time to train and rest before the application test. 

"Well, we will be going back a month from now so we will be staying here during that duration. A small break after protecting the city from the previous incoming attack, I guess."

"I see so at that time I will have my training?"

'Yes, the Nine Paths Academy is going to be one at that time and I believe you have enough time to enroll."

"Oh, I see."

"But the problem first is that we need to fix your tangled-up roots."

"My roots?"

"Yes, your power roots to be exact."

"You should be able to learn about it after entering the academy so I will give you a brief example. Miz show it, please."

As he said that Miz brought a diagram of the human body. With it organs and their features were displayed.

"As you know our body works with certain organs running it to survive but do you see any root for mana?"

"No," Javen answered his question.

"That's right because it is in a subspace plane in the human body more like a different dimension within ourselves where all our energy is stored."

"So, it is like borrowing power from another place and using it as our power source."

"Yes and no because this is also in our body, we just unlocked it. As for more details."

"I will learn it at the academy."

"That's right. And your roots right now could only handle mana but you abused it on multiple occasions by using Ether."

"Really?" Hearing this Jayven was confused as he didn't know about this.

"Try using mana for a moment. Noticing his reaction Klein instructed him to use mana."

"Okay."

Trying it Jayven finally understood. It was faster before but the control is wrecked and the mana has gone all over the place not like it did before.

"I can't control it; it seems to be seeping out of my body."

"This is worse than I expected."

"You're right hopefully we can stay here for a month and at that time maybe we can get it apply some first aid on it and maybe gradually let itself fix naturally."

"I guess that's our only option."

"But I didn't feel this way before why now?"

"Before you say? It might be during the activation of your skill that cancels out fatigue, right? Then you must have countered its side effect."

"That might be so. Is there any side effect with the usage of this skill Jayven?"

"Yes, my stats lower permanently and so do my mana and stamina. Sometimes it affects the natural functions of my body like health recovery and mana recovery."

"Shit that is one massive side effect."

"I'll go get the medical pod. Good thing we bought it."

"Yeah, I guess that machine that I plan to use after his boss fights paid off well huh?"

Hearing that reminded Jayven of his experience in the maze mansion.
