Gear Up

Monday morning arrived with the usual symphony of ringing alarms and rushed commutes. Kimberly, however, felt a knot of dread tightening in her stomach as she hurried into the sleek, glass-walled elevator of her office building.

Joining a group of sharply dressed colleagues, she exchanged polite greetings, her mind racing with the events of the weekend.

Her decision to keep the baby and the guilt of her agreement with Nicholas gnawed at her, and she kept asking herself if she was doing what was right.

The elevator doors slid open on the 5th floor, admitting two women, Sarah and Jessica, their voices bright and gossipy.

Sarah, a marketing associate known for her flamboyant style, was mid-sentence about a weekend date.

" ...and then, he pulls out this bouquet of lilies! Like, who even sends lilies on a first date?"
