Most of the students were shocked. Stell saw many trying to stand up or shout.
A person raised his hand, and the professor allowed him to speak.
"Isn't that unfair?" Envy and resignation could be heard in his tone.
"Indeed, it's unfair." The professor's nod made many students angry. Containing his anger, the person who just asked continued.
"Then why do you allow it?"
The professor only shook his head. "The world is unfair, young man. You can only choose to work more or sit and cry."
With a twisted expression, the young man stopped asking questions.
Stell, on the contrary, didn't feel like it was unfair. 'The way the professor casually talked about it means that there are more than just a few people who have the advantage. If everyone has the advantage, then no one really does.'
Although he didn't have the 'advantage' Stell felt like it wasn't worse than his previous world. There were people born with a golden spoon and people who had to climb themselves.
In the end, the destination was the same. He just had to work harder.
"You will learn about Order in due time. What you should be informed of should be your debt." The professor continued with a slightly less monotone tone.
'Here it comes.' Stell immediately became nervous. Would he slave away? Would he have to enter an army? Would he have to complete difficult missions?
As those thoughts entered his head, Stell's anxiety reached its peak.
"Because the Treat Kingdom saved you, you will have to sign the contract. If you don't sign it, the Treat Kingdom will return you to wherever you were before we saved you."
Another person asked a question with a shaky voice. "And where is that?"
"In space, probably. Even if you were lucky enough to not be sent to space, you will still have to survive harsh conditions of a planet most probably unhospitable to humans." The professor meaningfully explained.
'Damn.'
The contract had to be signed then.
It didn't take long for scrolls to appear before Stell and the rest of the students. As they unrolled, Stell took a peek at what was written inside.
After reading for a while, Stell took a pen that magically materialized next to him and signed the scroll with a weird face.
The scroll was the most fun thing he had ever seen! He had to participate in games that traded achievements. Apparently, achievements could be traded.
The better he performed, the better the reward.
The games were mostly competitive battle royale type, but there were other formats as well. Cooking, Cleaning, Zone Fighting, Fighting Tournaments, Puzzle, MMORPG...
The only thing that Stell didn't like was that he couldn't choose the game format. If he was in a Cooking competition, he was bound to lose.
There were two types of games. Casual and Competitive. Usually, most players start warming up with Casual. The contract specified that exiles' first five games must be competitive, and each game must be played within a week.
'That sucks.' Stell sighed, slightly dejected. He really became a kind of slave. Just not a slave to the Kingdom's leaders but to the Kingdom's citizens.
However, he didn't have any right to complain. The Kingdom saved them, and the only condition it made was for them to play competitive games.
After everyone signed the contract, the professor smiled in delight.
"Your new home is already prepared for you. This group's planet is going to be ZRT05. That's just a temporary name. After earning achievements, you can participate in games.
As a bonus for signing the contract, the Treat Kingdom will give you a system.
Stell's eyes widened. Systems could be given away so casually?! It didn't take long for the professor to break his hopes.
"The system you will be given is only a rip-off. You won't gain any rewards. The only thing it's useful for is analyzing yourself and connecting to other systems. It's still an invaluable helper, so don't feel down." The professor comforted.
Everyone felt down.
'Well, something is better than nothing.' It didn't take long for Stell to stop worrying.
"Are there any more questions, or should we end the class?"
A person raised his hand. He had a handsome face with green eyes. With blond hair and a casual blue summer outfit, he asked.
"Does the Volo or Order or whatever extend the lifespan?" That person's casual question made everyone's ears perk up.
"It does. After you reach a certain point, you shouldn't worry about dying a natural death. As long as you want to advance and work hard towards it, you are basically immortal."
Some people sighed, while others had excited expressions. Stell had neither. From all the novels he had read, he had long guessed that advancing would mean immortality.
It didn't mean that he wasn't confused, though.
'Why do people hate being immortal so much? If you want to die, just kill yourself.'
Another person raised his hand.
"Are there other races? Like Elves, demons, elves, dwarfs, or elves?"
The professor chuckled. "There are. Elves are a human's natural evolution. When you reach a higher Order, you can evolve too."
The person excitedly nodded, fervor seen on his face.
'Guess that's one more motivated person.' Stell grinned.
After no one asked any more questions, the professor concluded his lesson.
"You will be teleported to a city meant for exiles. Don't fight there or break any rules, or you will die a painful death. You can trade your achievements for gold coins. Believe me, you will need them." The professor chuckled at the end.
With a burst of light, Stell and the rest were teleported to the exiles' city.
Opening his eyes, Stell looked around. He was in a square full of people. With every second, more people appeared.
Looking around, he noticed many colorful houses. If he didn't know any better, he would have guessed that he was on vacation in another country.
Slowly, the people who appeared started leaving the square. Stell then randomly picked a direction and decided to explore.
The buildings were mostly above 10 meters. After seeing that most of them were empty, Stell guessed that most of them were rentable.
"Ah, I wish I had a cheat now. I am not sure where to go or what to do." Stell looked around, murmuring.
Then, a person appeared. It was the blonde who asked the professor about lifespan. Stell remembered him as one of the people who were relaxed at the start of the lecture.
The blonde was feeding the pigeons with bread.
"Hey, where did you find the bread?" Stell couldn't help but ask. Partially curious and partially wanting to form a connection with the young man.
"It was on the street. Guess that someone doesn't appreciate good food. After picking it up, I felt like feeding the pigeons. I am Felix, by the way." The blonde went for a handshake.
"I am Stell. I guess that some people truly don't care." Stell reciprocated.
After a while, Felix took the rest of the bread and threw it at a random passerby's face.
"What the fuck?" Stell looked at Felix with wide eyes.
