Milo rubbed his arms as we continued deeper into the cavern. "How long is this thing?"

Griff closed his eyes. "It goes pretty far, leading into the crater."

"The Grand Crater toward the wester of Shirayuki," I answered.

Gael sighed. "No wonder we've been walking non-stop."

"Can you detect anyone, though?" Koyuki asked.

Her father shook his head. "No, but I think the size of this cavern explains why no one has found the perpetrators. No would would expect to look around the Grand Crater."

"Why is it called that?" Milo asked, scratching his head.

"It's Grand as in big," Gael said, spreading his arms out.

"It was formed when drillers were looking for new energy sources. It's very rich in..." Griff's eyes widened.

"What's wrong, Dad?" Koyuki asked, patting his right arm.

Griff glanced at me. "The sample."

I took it out and handed it to him.
