Chapter 200: Doubts About Fatherhood

After helping set up the tables, I took a seat and watched as the children and adults filed in. Some of the men carried large baskets of food, while others carried plates and cups.

I ran over and helped some of the teenage boys carry their baskets. The things were pretty heavy.

The women took the baskets from us and began to clean, cut, and serve the food.

"Here, have some fruit, Uneri," Kisara's mom said, offering me a date.

"Thanks," I replied, taking the date. Their breakfasts were surprisingly simple. I thought they were going to cook.

"Why that look of disappointment?" Rohan said, lowering his apple. "Expected a fancy breakfast? You do realize these people live off the desert's resources. While they do get stuff from towns every once in a while, it's not always."

"I know," I said, taking a bite. "It's just... I'm not used to eating fruit first thing in the morning."
