"Say, shouldn't you cover your eyes too?" Akihi asked as he kept looking at the darkness. Or at least it seemed he might've been. It was hard to tell for sure, given his sunglasses.

He chuckled. "I am fine. I got my special sunglasses."

"Since when do sunglasses protect against darkness?" Rohan asked, keeping his eyes closed.

Akihi laughed awkwardly. "Well, I thought since they protect against harmful radiation, they could protect us against this realm's corrosive effects."

"It's not entirely physical," I said as I looked at my barrier.

The bubble of light I conjured was a fragile barrier against the oppressive darkness that surrounded us. Akihi's question lingered in the air, mingling with the cold that seeped into our bones.
