Epilogue

Lucas Carter.

The Earth has been in existence for 4.5 billion years. The dawn of modern humans was a mere 300,000 years ago. If the earth's existence represents a twenty-four hour day, humans have dwelled here for approximately 3 seconds.

In that short period of time, what have we done?

"So, it was you?"

Do we have a say in who gets to die?

Three seconds. Can you recall everything you did? Have you ever done something good, or worst? What did you do in that three seconds?

"I deserve death for what I've done."

What I can say is that... you can have a long life, and then lose every right to live.

"You think so?"

It's been three months, everything that happened was stuck on my shoulders. These walls around me know how much I tried to let them go. Is it done?

I don't think we get to see the end in anything as long as we're here. But they can go black and white, as if they're everything you have.

I've spilled all the beans. There's nothing left to say, nothing more to keep.

"How are you, and your family?" Doctor Solomon asked, and my eyes froze for a moment. "Are you all on good terms now?"

I couldn't find the right words. A part of me wanted to convince myself that everything's alright, but another part was saying the opposite.

"They said we're okay." I answered.

I remember everything. The numbers were crunched, the conclusion was clear and the puzzle was solved. I needed that last piece to see the complete picture, and then all at once I just wanted to erase it in my head.

"You know it wasn't intentional, right?" He said. I couldn't look into his eyes, I thought I got no more tears left to shed. "You tried to protect yourself."

"I took a life, and I could never bring that back." I replied, and then silence ensued the room.

Life. Do we get to choose who should live it? We're all humans, they say. Eliza was a human, she was betrayed, and she was hurt.

Life... once it ends, there's no way to hit the restart button, you don't get to be anything. It all ends there.

I didn't just take a life, I took chances. I took her away from my brother. I got blood stained in my hands. It will be there.

How do I live with that?
