Chapter 10:Rescued by Charles

"That's Mandy Morgan, she's one of the richest girl in our school, her father Morgan Smith is a well known business tycoon in New York, he's heartless and cold but only afraid of one family and that's the Browns. The Browns are known for their relentless pursuit in business and they are the most feared business tycoon in the world, sad thing, Mr Rupert Brown died three years ago but his wife Genevieve Brown has been a well respected public figure in the society, I admire her a lot, although she and her family doesn't reside in the city but her aura is undeniable and is always felt, a lot of people freak under the sound of her name. I admire her a lot" Alice explained. Sarah wasn't surprised her mother was indeed feared and so was her father, she smiled inwardly as her family was praised but showed a surprised and shocked face on hearing Alice's explanation

"Oh my God!" she exclaimed "they must be really powerful, no wonder Mandy is so spoilt" Sarah said looking at her

"Speaking of spoilt, she very rude and gets whatever anything she wants but you don't have to allow the opinions of this rich kids in campus define who you are, or they are going to make you feel like you don't belong here, meanwhile you do belong here." Alice said stealing a glance at Mandy

"I see" Sarah said nodding, she knew quite well what she was doing and wouldn't give anyone the space to belittle her even though she's still under a test and doesn't have access to her family's connection

"Not to worry, I'm here for you and I wouldn't let anyone hurt or mistreat my friend" Alice said with a sweet smile

Sarah took a deep breath, drawing strength from Alice's words. She knew that she shouldn't let the shallow judgments of others affect her, and she wasn't going to let anyone make her feel unwelcome. Luckily the lecturer walked in and introduced himself as Mr Williams.

As soon as the lecture ended, Alice said goodbye to Sarah and left for work, leaving Sarah all alone, Sarah was still unfamiliar with the environment around the school so she decided to take a walk.

The hot summer sun beat down on the bustling streets of downtown, creating a hazy, almost dreamlike atmosphere. Sarah held her book to her chest and a middle sized back pack to her back as she looked at the tall beautiful buildings and admired the beautiful sculpture, se of which looked like the ones back home, she felt lonely and sad, soon her mind drifted into thoughts.

Lost in her thoughts, Sarah failed to notice the red hand flashing on the pedestrian crossing signal. But just as she took a few more steps, she heard a familiar voice calling out to her, "Hey, Sarah watch out!"

Wondering whom it was, Sarah looked up to see a tall, ruggedly handsome man standing at the edge of the sidewalk, holding out his hand as if to shield her from the oncoming traffic. His deep blue eyes met hers, filled with concern and an inexplicable kindness. It was Charles, the guy she met the previous day. Flustered, Sarah quickly stepped back onto the curb, her heart pounding in her chest.

"Thank you," she stammered, flustered and grateful for his quick reaction. "I wasn't paying attention."

"No problem, just glad I could help," he replied, with a smile, his voice tinged with a nearly imperceptible Scottish accent. He had a strong, confident presence about him.

"where are you going all alone?" Charles asked

"I was just taking a walk down the streets, do you live around here, Charles?" she asked curiously

He smiled warmly, revealing a slight dimple on his left cheek. "Nah, I'm just passing through. I'm a bit of a wanderer, you see."

"Oh I see, no wonder you're everywhere" Sarah teased

"Hahaha!! I was only kidding, there's a hotdog buns down the road, I'm a little hungry so I decided to get bite. Care to join?" Charles asked looking at her, Sarah looked at him with a smile on her face and said

"I'm a little hungry, as well, so I don't mind"
