Chapter 21: The First All Pack Shift

“I know you shift every night, but I don’t know how.” Helliot is stretching out as we wait for the sun to set, for the urge to really hit. “Don’t you think it feels weird? Like your bones are grinding together?”

“It gets easier every time you do it,” I tell her. “And I think you’ll find it easier to do with me around. You just have to focus on letting go.”

“Letting go of what?” Melanie asks. She’s wrapped in a bathrobe, and I don’t think she’s wearing anything underneath.

“Of your need to be human,” I say. “Tonight is when your human and wolf halves will be, potentially, the most at war. This goes for all of us. Your human half is going to hold on because it’s scared, it’s worried. But it’s okay. I’m going to help. We’re all in this together, and it’s going to be safe.
