Chapter 22: Familiar Fears

I hear the anger in Alex’s throat as he lets out a low growl. And for just an instant, I’m reminded of when I was attacked.

At some point, before those two wolves finished killing me, someone else got in their way. Another wolf stood over my body as I transitioned towards a corpse, growling at the wolves that had eaten that other person and attacked me.

He stood over me and he growled at them, snarled at them, until they left me alone. If he hadn’t, if they’d been able to continue, I know I wouldn’t have survived. I shouldn’t have survived it anyway, but that’s not the point. The point was that another werewolf had to stop the first two from eating me alive.

And now I feel like I’m going to have to do the same thing to Alex.

My hackles raise, and I growl down at him. Hopefully I can overcome whatever has him going, and I can stop him from attacking. If I can’t, I’m not going to let him kill anyone. If I have to, I’ll kill him first.

It was so close when I was attacked.
