Chapter 11: My, What a Big Nose You Have

Evan proved to be an apt and rigorous trainer. We spent the next few weeks working on my stamina. I used to exercise all the time, but running for my life and trying to survive had cut way down on my extracurriculars. The injuries I sustained at the hands of Rory didn't help, but on the third week, I could run a mile in under ten minutes.

I saw Cane in snatches of time here and there, but we were rarely in the same place at the same time. There was an almost irresistible urge inside of me to seek him out—one I couldn't explain but didn't like. Every time he had to speak to me, he acted like a grumpy old man.
