Chapter 18: Green-Eyed Monster

I heard their voices before rounding the corner and halted in mid-step.

"We can hear you, human," a voice called out.

Soft laughter followed her words. Squaring my shoulders, I inhaled, mentally preparing myself for the next few minutes. Rory might be on house arrest, but it didn't mean she didn't leave her home. I made a mental note to ask Evan if this was actually a punishment for her or if Rory had been given a vacation. From how she sprawled on the porch surrounded by her other cronies, it sure seemed like it to me.

I kept my head down and made the turn, carefully avoiding eye contact. They'd made a point of being out here several times since the announcement of Cane's impending nuptials with her. Or whatever it was they were doing. Mating is what the shifters called it.

"Hi Aspen," Rory called cheerfully, waving a perfectly tipped manicured hand.
