I was surprised.
I had thought that the old lady would nod, but she neither nodded nor shook her head. She just opened and closed her mouth and seemed to keep repeating what she had said last night.
"Run!"
No, there must be something wrong.
I was not leaving this place until I figured it out.
"Ms. White, don't be afraid. I can protect you. Did Calvin threaten you not to say anything?"
From the way the old lady was acting, I'd say she was threatened. After all, she was so old and dependent on Calvin that she usually didn't dare disobey him.
It turned out that I was wrong again.
The old lady shook her head.
I was going crazy. What was going on? It was not what I thought it was.
I scratched my head and didn't know what to say for a moment.
Just then, Ms. Longman hurried over and said when she saw me, "Miss Clark, I think there's someone in the basement!"
"Basement?" I asked.
