Today was our first anniversary.
Edward went on a business trip abroad two months ago. Despite the time difference, he called me at 8 a.m. this morning, saying he had bought me my favorite flowers and asking me to pick him up at the airport tonight.
As soon as I put down my phone, the doorbell rang.
When I opened the door, the young delivery man said with a smile, "Madam, I wish you and your husband a happy anniversary and a long life together."
He was holding a bunch of white roses.
I took the flowers and said, smiling, "Thank you."
Then I closed the door, placed the flowers in the vase, and gently stroked the petals.
Actually, I didn't like white roses.
They were very delicate and wilted easily.
They were the favorite of my sister Carol.
But for the last year, I had been Carol.
My phone on the table kept ringing. I hadn't saved the number, but I was familiar with it.
That was because it had been mine for ten years.
