After a while, there was a knock on the door.
Carol opened the door. Edward was standing there with a bag in his hand.
My gaze fell on him.
He was looking at me too. Our eyes met, but no one spoke.
Carol looked at him and then at me. She broke into a smile and said, "I forgot, you two haven't officially met. Susie, this is my husband, Edward. You've seen his photo before. Eddie, this is my sister, Susie."
I looked at Carol, who was twiddling her fingers nervously with a smile.
I turned to Edward again.
After a long silence, I brought myself to greet him.
"Hello, Edward."
Relieved, Carol went over and said, "You must be hungry. Eddie brought some food. Have some and get some sleep."
Carol helped me to the nearby sofa. Edward placed the lunch boxes on the coffee table.
"Eddie, did you buy this from the hospital cafeteria?"
Edward shook his head. "The food there is terrible, so I got these from a restaurant."
Then he placed the pork enchiladas in front of me.
