Revelations

"Before you head out can one of you tell me what my divinity is aspected towards because I can't tell?" I asked and the three exchanged looks that told me they were communicating psychically. A few moments later Azelf spoke up 'Before we discuss that we would like to understand how much about divinities you know.' It said. I nodded in understanding before explaining my own understanding of divinities including my own leaps in logic I had made about them. 'For the majority of your understanding you are correct but there are a few points that you got wrong.'-

'The first is that simply having a divinity is not enough to be immortal or all the children of our kin would still roam the world and not be lost to age. Only naturally occurring divinities grant agelessness. For those born and then later acquire an active divinity your lifespan merely increases by a factor of ten. In other words for a high human such as yourself with a natural lifespan of three hundred years on average your lifespan is now three thousand years instead. Second is that possessing a divinity sets one on a higher level than those without.'

'This is both correct and incorrect at the same time. To explain it simply having a divinity gives one a higher starting point than others without one but existentially speaking does not make one higher than others in the vast majority of cases. You are rather unique however in that you achieved divinity not by pure quality but rather an extreme quantity of aura so your power is existentially higher grade than anyone without a divinity and many with one. This unfortunately also means that your divinity lacks a single overarching concept like nearly all others.'

'Not incomplete or worse than a pure concept divinity but lacking in specialization, a rather perfect fit for one of your kind in my opinion.' it explained in detail making my head swim. There was a lot to unpack there and I had to take a moment to process it all. The lifespan information, the true weight of a divinity and the fact that I took an unorthodox path to acquiring my own. Finally however was that as a result of the path I took my divinity lacked any real concept behind it at all.-

Honestly that last part wasn't really a big deal for me as I was sort of a jack of all trades anyways so not having a single concept to follow was good. I will admit that it stung quite a bit at the moment however as I had really hoped to get some amazing concept. "Has there ever actually been anyone who got a divinity through normal training?" I asked curious to know how rare acquired divinities were. 'Of course there are. All beings gain a divinity by reaching the level of power you humans refer to as "beyond champion" though the divinities acquired tend to be minor and not unique at all.' Uxie said with a nod.-

That made me pause from the sheer impact it had on me. You have to understand that I had thought that acquiring a divinity to be a nearly heaven defying feat but reality just slapped me right in the face it seems. Not to say that it was easy by any means as to my knowledge there were very few beyond champion level existences that weren't legendries already. I didn't have an exact number but it was likely less than a thousand.-

The vast majority of people and pokemon hit the champion level and just stop there as that alone took a massive amount of effort and time so reaching further was not worth it. Young champion level existences like Steven, Lance, and Cynthia were extremely rare in recorded history with the vast majority being over halfway through their lives by the time they hit that stride. It was one of the reasons everyone from the league more or less tried to stay on my good side as one had to remember I hit elite level in right at a year of being a trainer.-

My rise to champion level was all but set in stone as far as everyone was concerned and given my age that set me right up there with Cynthia and the others even if I wasn't there yet. One thing that this information got me excited about however was that if I could get Tank up to beyond champion level his lifespan would increase by a factor of ten which is to say from fifteen years to a hundred and fifty. Thanks to the plate he was currently holding that goal was far easier than normal as well.-

"You said that having a divinity was merely getting to a higher starting point, what do you mean by that?" I asked. 'Divinity is a seed of potential. The potential to join our kin in eternity. Unaging and unable to be killed while hold sway over much of the world itself. What you humans refer to as godhood. The path is perilous however and since the world was young till now there have only been one being to walk to it's end. The first of the Hoho.' Mesprit said before all three of them left. -

I had to admit that threw me off as I had always thought that the Hoho species was a natural born legendary species. Finding out that they were artificial however changed everything as it explained why they were so rare. Other than the first pokemon that later became Ho ho all the rest were still mortal and could die of old age if they didn't also reach the end of the path which according to the three just here meant none of them. I couldn't help feeling bad for the original to a degree as it had no doubt watched as all those it sired tried and failed to join it in eternity for countless years.-

'Maybe that's why godly legendries rarely reproduce, they don't want to feel that suffering.' I thought with a sigh. Still despite knowing that the chances of me actually reaching the end of the path and achieving godhood were slim to none I had no intention of throwing in the towel. I had three thousand years to strive towards that goal after all.
