Chapter 15 : Impending Disaster

I stood at the door for at least a minute before I worked up the nerve to knock. Riley answered within a few seconds and smiled brightly at me. He motioned for me to enter and I did, although I felt incredibly awkward about it.

“Hello, Miss Donnelly,” he greeted with a smile. “I assume you’d like to speak to Mr. Gujic.”

“If he’s available,” I answered softly. I felt like I was inviting rejection and I’d never been particularly good at accepting that. “He isn’t expecting me.”

“Follow me.” Riley gestured. “I’ll take you to the study to wait. He’s in a meeting right now, but it shouldn’t be long.”

“Thanks.”

I followed Riley down the hallway and past the dining room. It didn’t seem that any more effort had been put into decorating the place. The study consisted of a desk with a stack of books and a computer chair. Riley told me to make myself at home, then stepped away.
