Chapter 23 : Help in Unlikely Places

After my lunch with Dex, I was feeling much better. I was actually able to get caught up on work. The relief that came with not having any deadlines hanging over my head was more than welcome.

Today, I was planning on leaving a little early. Kim was bored out of her head while I was gone and she’d already rearranged my living room and ordered me new curtains. I didn’t want to know what she might get up to if I left her on her own for too long. She was always complaining that my wardrobe was outdated.

“Thea,” Ruben called out. “Raine wants to talk to you.”

“No,” I responded automatically. “Tell them I died.”

He walked into my cubicle and kicked off his shoes. I frowned at him in confusion, then he started dragging his socks across the carpet.

“Oh, don’t you dare shock me!”
