Chapter 26 : Life Ahead

It felt remarkably natural to be walking hand in hand through downtown Bell City with Tahir. Since he still hadn’t had any luck finding the missing armlet, he wanted to explore the city in an attempt to detect its magical aura. My knowledge of the city would be helpful if he managed to find a trail to follow, so he asked me to accompany him.

I was thrilled that he was allowing me to help, even if it wasn’t much. It was driving me crazy to sit on the sidelines, knowing the danger that the town was facing. I wasn’t sure if Tahir knew how much this meant to me. Ziv had dropped us off at the far end of town early this morning, and we’d spent the past hour walking through the residential blocks.

“So, what does it feel like?” I asked. “What exactly is it you’re trying to detect?”

I accepted that magic exists, but I still didn’t understand anything about it. My curiosity was running wild. Was it a scent? A visual? A physical sensation? I needed to know.
