Chapter 30 : Mr. Ashworth and Co.

It felt strange being back in the Ashworth mansion after the confrontation that had happened the last time I was here. Kim had called me at lunch and asked me to come over for dinner. I hesitated, obviously.

The last time I’d seen Mr. Ashworth, he said some pretty awful things to me. But, Kim assured me that he was back to his old self and he desperately wanted to apologize.

I wanted to see for myself that he was better. I knew that it would go a long way towards reassuring me that everything would be ok.

So, there I was, standing in the foyer and waiting for Mr. Ashworth to come greet me. It may have been my imagination, but the house felt different than it had the last few times I was here. It was like an oppressive air had lifted and made it a little easier to breathe.

“Thea, thank you for coming,” Mr. Ashworth greeted as he came around the corner and approached me. Kim was following close behind him with a wide smile on her face.
