Chapter 44 : Glowing

Tahir’s stubborn refusal to transform didn’t make sense to me. What did he mean by saying he was not doing this on Popescu’s terms? I didn’t understand what was happening and it was extremely frustrating. I was sure that Tahir could end this if he would just shift into his dragon form, but there was clearly a reason that he wouldn’t.

I felt helpless as I watched the two men fight. Even with a weapon in my hand, I was useless. I couldn’t figure out how to use the stupid scepter. It was just an oversized paperweight in my hands.

“This will end,” Popescu said gravely. “But not the way you think, demon. I have been preparing for this all my life. The last of the Gujic clan will die by my hands. I will complete the work my ancestors started so long ago.”

He raised the long, curved blade of the dagger into the air. The smell of ozone strengthened and the buzz of electricity in the air returned with it. Energy crackled along the blade, then shot straight into the air.
