Chapter 48 : Making a Decision

The next day, I found myself sitting in my favorite Mexican restaurant, munching on chips and salsa and waiting for Dex to arrive. He hadn't sounded surprised when I called and asked him if we could talk. I owed him a meal anyway, so he’d suggested we meet at the restaurant at the end of his shift. I don’t think I’d ever been so nervous about talking to Dex. Then again, I’d never had to make such a big decision before.

I wanted to go with Tahir. I didn’t want to lose him. But my desire to remain by his side was warring with the sense of duty I felt towards my family. I didn’t need their permission to leave, but I wanted their blessing. I knew that my dad would give it in an instant. He’d been telling me for years that I should get out of this little town and find some place bigger with more opportunities.
