The elation Jack and I had shared was quickly replaced by despair as we got dressed. I had to return to my uncle’s house, and he was going to be upset with me. From there, I was going home. I didn’t know when exactly, but I had a feeling it would be very soon. The more  I thought about leaving, the more twisted my insides felt. 


Jack offered me his hand and I took it gratefully. He led me out of the bedroom. Matt and Reid were leaning against the kitchen island talking quietly. When we entered the room they both straightened up. Their tense, resigned expressions mirrored Jack’s. I wondered what they saw on my face. 


“We have to get you back,” Reid said softly. 


I released Jack’s hand and nodded. “I know.” I’d stolen as much time as I could. It was time to face the music. 


“It’s not a goodbye,” Matt said earnestly. “We’ll be together again before you know it, princess.”
