Chapter 35 : Where is Jack?

*Kenna*

Watching the festival grounds shrink behind us was one of the most difficult things I had ever had to do. Leaving Reid, Matt, and Jack broke my heart, and that wasn’t a dramatic way of phrasing it. My chest physically hurt and my stomach was so twisted that I thought I might throw up.

I wanted to convince Dad to let me stay, but I knew that there was nothing I could say that would change his mind. I wanted to jump out of the car and run, but I knew I wouldn’t get far. I felt helpless and I hated it more than anything.

The doubts that had plagued me about what I was feeling for the three of them had resolved almost overnight. Every minute that we drove further from them I was sure that I was leaving behind my fate. My eyes were burning with unshed tears but I refused to let dad see me cry. He would just say that it was proof that I was too emotionally invested in this situation to make a good decision.
