Chapter 36 : Jack vs. Blaise

*Jack*

“Hurry please,” Cassandra sobbed.

She grabbed my wrist and led me further into the forest. A sense of unease had settled over me the moment we’d passed into the tree line. We weren’t going towards the clearing where Blaise and his rogues had met last night, but it still put me on edge that she was dragging me so far from the festival grounds.

“What was Christy doing out here?” I asked.

Christy was Cassandra’s younger sister. She was a kind, quiet girl that usually kept to herself. Her choice to come to the festival this year had surprised me, but she was twenty-four now and hadn’t met her mate yet, so I assumed that was her motivation.

“I don’t know,” Cassandra said softly. “She said she was going to take a walk this morning and I didn’t think anything of it.” She turned suddenly and picked up her pace, dragging me towards a nearby clearing.
