Chapter 37 : Walking into a Trap

Kenna’s text took me off guard. Matt seemed just as confused by it. I wasn’t really worried at first, but Kenna seemed to be, so we went to check on Jack, as we promised. The longer it took to find him, the more worried we got. I had expected to run into him walking the paths back toward his rental, but there was no sign of him.

I didn’t understand why he would have gone off with Cassandra, but something seemed off about the whole situation. Jack was so vehemently opposed to spending any time near that woman, so the fact that he ran off with her was odd. Even if he believed that a member of his pack needed help, he should have made his way back by now. We’d seen no sign of him.

“I’ve got a bad feeling,” Matt said.

“You’ve said that three times since we left,” I pointed out. Matt’s increasing concern was doing nothing to calm my nerves.
