Chapter 40 : She's Leaving

The door clicked shut behind the scurrying board members, leaving me and Dad alone in the meeting room. We were both standing, glaring at each other across the table. My hands were shaking at my sides.

“What has gotten into you?” he demanded.

“Nothing has gotten into me,” I said.

I suddenly felt very tired. I didn’t want to fight with Dad, I just wanted him to understand what I had given up to come back here. This wasn’t easy for me.

“Then why are you acting so aggressively?” His tone softened as he looked into my eyes. “I thought that you would be happy to be home.”

I sighed and hugged myself tightly. “It’s not that I’m not happy to be home,” I said.

I loved my pack and I was happy that I could help them. I also felt a lot more secure being so far from Blaise. But being away from my mates was hard. Not having a say in where I was didn’t help. It made me feel powerless.
