Chapter 29 : Are We Mates?

*Amaya*

“Are you okay?” Wren asked, his voice full of concern and a slight alarm.

But I barely heard him, I was confused and full of questions that I didn’t want answers to. I didn’t want to ruin what was becoming a positive and lovely situation. It worked, it wasn’t broken. I was just a stupid curious woman and curiosity killed the cat. It would ruin this really good thing.

But I was so sick of being lied to, being out of the loop, being the butt of a joke.

Wren placed both of his hands on my shoulders to regain my attention. His hands were so large, like bear paws. And so warm, unnaturally so. They felt heavier than normal on my shoulders. But I was still very much lost in my thoughts, debating if I should drop it and enjoy my happy little thing or talk to Wren and ruin everything.

“You said I was your mate,” I said abruptly.

Wren dropped his hands from my shoulders and his body language became cold and rigid. Yep, I’d ruined it. Good job, Amaya.
