When Mia wakes that morning, she feels Elon’s arms warm around her. As she turns to face him, his eyes are already wide awake. He looks distracted, seemingly in a faraway world where she can’t reach him.
Mia lays a hand on the side of his face, gently pulling his focus back on her.
“Good morning, my love,” she whispers. “Where were you?”
Elon leans into Mia’s touch, closing his eyes for a moment.
“I was just thinking. It’s nothing important, I promise,” he says.
Mia isn’t sure if she believes him, but she chooses to trust his words.
“You’d tell me if it was, right? I can help, you know? I’m here for you to lean on. You don’t have to keep it all to yourself,” Mia assures him, the two sitting in the warm quiet of their bed for a moment. Things feel much smaller here as if they can overcome any adversity together.
