Chapter 40 : Fall Apart

As Mia races down the stairs, she can tell that Elon isn’t following her by the lack of footsteps behind her. Sinking to the ground, she sits on the steps and finally lets all of her emotions rush to the surface.

Everything floods out at once. All the emotions she’s been keeping in burst forward explosively. She doesn’t know what to think. Every time her brain tries to come up with some logical solution as to why Elon would do this to her, she’s thrown back into the past.

She sees Mateo’s face, the cruel curl of his lips as she asks if he loves Isabel. That face blends with Elon’s as she pictures him holding Aisha’s hand, telling her that he never loved Mia.

She holds her head, curling over on herself as her breathing becomes ragged. Everything he told her is a lie, isn’t it? Mia is nothing but a distraction for Elon, a bit of fun before he starts his real life. The life he was always meant to have.
