Out of the Mist Mountain

Kiara's POV

I look at my husband. He must have realized that I wanted to be the one to ask a simple favor.

"I don't know if it's a simple one, but... can you guide us out of this mountain? That's our request," I answered.

They all look at each other. I hope they will agree and help us.

"Are you all planning to go to the kingdom of witches?"

We are taken aback by what they said. The tone they used had bothered me.

"Yes, we are planning to speak with the leader of the witch clan," I honestly replied.

"The witch kingdom is currently in chaos. That is the reason why monsters and creatures were thrown into this mountain. The new ruler creates this mist to stop an outsider from poking their nose with... her business."

I didn't expect them to share such information with us. I knew they were not lying. What is happening to that kingdom

"Tell us more. We have to be ready for the kind of mess we have to face," Enrico stated.

We waited for their answers. I guess this is not the end of this adventure. There will be a greater problem in that place.

"We heard from the birds that the previous queen was wrongfully accused and its best friend had taken over the kingdom. The kingdom falls into the hands of a tyrannical ruler. That's what we heard," the other one explains.

For the past two years, we've never heard any news from that kingdom, and we expect it because they've been secretive and never raised any problems with the rest of the four kingdoms.

Some clans even labeled them as witch monks. I hope the dragon kingdom is not having any serious problems like the witch kingdom.

"Thank you for telling us. Help us leave the mountain. We'll take care of the rest."

Sam and Kiara look at me. I smiled and then sighed.

"We are here to ask for an alliance, right? Let's start by helping the witch kingdom and getting their trust." Kiara smiled and kissed my cheek. I glared, but she giggled.

"That's my duke. At least you're still the same and never turn your back when someone needs your help, no matter who they are or what status they have," she says.

The boulders start moving. "Then follow us. May the sky guard and protect all of you," the fourth one says.

We followed them by flying into the sky. After an hour of travel, I notice that the mist is getting thinner. The boulder giants stop and face us.

"We will stay here, as we, the exiled monsters and creatures, can never pass through this mist. May the three of you succeed in whatever problem you will all face," the fifth one says.

I look at the chimera that I saved. "Stay here and live freely. Thank you for helping me, Chimera," I stated.

He bows his head and jumps on one of the giant's shoulders. "May the sky give you all the strength and bravery, humans. Good luck," the chimera replied.

My husband had flied us out of the Mist Mountain.

We decided to land on a certain corner and stay for the night. We found this cave, and my husband went out to find some wood that we could use for a bonfire. I look at Sam.

He's been silent for a while. "Is there a problem, Sam?" I ask.

He raises his head and looks at me. He sighed and shook his head.

Sam is much livelier than Marco. It's a little bit off when I see him like this.

"You can tell me. Duke Enrico is not here yet. It's better to speak about it than sulk like that," I suggest.

Sam sighed and seemed to agree with what I said. "I thought I'd die before I could meet the two of you, duchess. I also remember someone who regrets eating me. That's the reason why I got distracted while fighting," he mutters.

"Is this about Lady Cressida?" I ask.

He looks surprised when I utter her name. I smiled. "Well, I notice how she looks at you with one of the balls that the royal family holds. I think she likes you," I remarked.

He looks more stunned when I say those words. Wait a minute. I point my finger in his face.

"Don't tell me you didn't know that Lady Danes likes you?" I ask.

He shook his head, looking confused. I bite my lower lip and realize what kind of mistake I just made.

My goodness! My husband laughs. Duke Enrico was holding several branches in his hands.

He crouch down and starts making a fire for us. The smell of the wind is different.

"I guess a downpour will happen tonight," I whispered. "You're right. But, honey, don't scare my best friend like that. He might jump to conclusions and scare Lady Cressida."

Sam covers half of his face with his palm. He was blushing! I went to my husband's side and grabbed his arms.

"Your knight is scaring me," I whispered. My husband flicks my forehead lightly.

"She... likes me?" Sam mumbles.

I really fucking messed it up! I look at my husband, giving him puppy eyes. I need his advice!

"Don't worry. I think he really needs it so that he'll have the courage to court Lady Cressida," Enrico whispers.

"Do you think so?" I whimpered.

He nodded and pinched my cheek. He must have realized how worried I was.

Sam and my husband cooked the food we bought from the last village where we reside.

My husband made mushroom soap, and Sam takes care of the fish.

I want to eat rice, but we forgot to buy one. After a few minutes, the food was ready.

My husband scooped a bowl of soup and gave it to me.

"I missed the kids. I wonder if the royal family was having a hard time dealing with their cries."

My husband was taken aback when I remembered the kids. He smiled and placed his hand on my head.

"Don't worry. My brother and sister-in-law were great at dealing with babies. I'm sure my nephew was helping them. They also have nannies. We will go home as soon as we can, okay?" Enrico says.

I end up smiling and tasting the soup that he cooks. My stomach warms up. The rain was already falling.

"It's delicious, love!" I exclaimed.

Sam laughs. "I wonder what is happening inside those walls."
