James Anderson maintained his composure, sneering, "I obviously couldn't bring the stuff here. I have entrusted it to a friend I trust!" He turned to look at Helen Blair. His eyes brimmed with longing and tenderness, but this look filled Helen with an indescribable sense of dread.

"Here's a better idea. I stay, you let them go. Your goal is me and what I have. No need to harm innocent people," James suggested to the gangster, his voice cold as ice.

The gangster pondered for a moment, stooping to whisper with someone inside through a crevice. After some time, he looked up at the two gangsters watching over Helen and the others, waved them over, and said, "Take them and put them in the van and send them away!"

One of the gangsters crouched down and cut the ropes binding their feet with a dagger. They hauled Helen and the others up and rudely dragged them out.
