Chapter 4 - Entrance Exam

The next day Alex woke up early at around 05:30 AM in the morning and went to the shower, in the toilet attached to his room, to go and take a shower.

Once he was finished, he got out of the shower and started to get ready for his morning jog.

He left the house without making a noise and started to run. It was a very breezy morning and the sun was only beginning to rise.

The breeze blew gently on his face and blew through his hair. He inhaled the morning air, through his nostrils, as deep as he could. Then after a while of holding in his breath he breathed out heavily.

He continued to jog for a while and stopped at a park. The sun had completely rose by now and it was shining brightly on his face.

He then decided to go back home and started jogging back towards his home.

When he reached his home and entered the building and he went straight to the living room.

When he entered the living room, he saw his mother sitting on the couch while she was crying and his older sister was trying to console her.

His father was on a call and he seemed to be agitated. He was yelling to the person at the other side of the phonecall.

"What do you mean I have to wait ?! My son has went missing and it is your job to go and look for him !" screamed Alex's father as his face turned a shade of red from the anger he was feeling and from the screaming he was doing.

Only after he heard his father's words did he know what was happening and as such he made his presence to be known by his family members.

"Uh...I am back," said Alex as he looked at his family members who were all agitated and made his presence to be known.

"I said -," Alex's father was beginning to say something when he was cut off by the voice of his 'missing' son.

He looked over to the living room's door and saw his son standing there at the door wearing a tracksuit and covered in sweat. He quickly apologized to the authorities before he hung up the call.

When his mother, Bethany, heard Alex's voice, she looked up at the living room's door and saw him standing there.

She quickly got off the couch and ran towards him and gave him a tight hug and started to cry even more.

Alex hugged her back while he tried to console her and after a while, she stopped crying and stepped back and questioned him on where he had been in the morning.

"Where did you go this early in the morning," asked Bethany as she gazed at her son, Alex with reddened and swollen eyes.

It hurt to see his mother in such a condition. It was clear that she had been crying the entire morning and that is why her eyes were reddened and swollen.

He then proceeded to respond to his mother's question and said,"I was just out to have my morning jog."

Bethany quickly felt relief wash all over her body as she sighed heavily. She then looked at her son and questioned him on why he never told anyone that he was going out for a morning jog.

"We were so worried about you. Why did you not tell anyone that you were going out to jog, dear ?" asked Bethany as she looked at her son who was standing at the living room's door.

"Everyone was asleep and I did not want to wake anyone up," replied Alex as he entered the living room and sat on the couch next to his mother.

"You could have written a note, you know ?" added his older sister, Alexa, from the side.

"Yes I was planning to do it, but I could not find a paper, so I just decided to leave it and just come back as quick as I could," replied Alex as he looked at his older sister, Alexa,

who was standing on the side near the wall.

After answering his family's questions, he went straight back to his room where he got into the shower and started to take a shower.

He exited the shower after a while and started to get ready for his entrance exam.

He looked at his reflection in the mirror to make sure that his appearance was alright before he left. After all he needs to make a good first impression on the headmaster of the University of Chicago.

After making sure that his appearance was alright, he heard his mother call out from downstairs.

"Breakfast is ready, Alex. Come and have your breakfast before it gets cold," yelled Bethany from downstairs to call her son down for breakfast.

"Okay mom, I am coming," said Alex as he replied to his mother's call.

He then made his way down the stairs and towards the dining room where the rest of his family members were seated.

He took the seat across from his older sister and then looked at his father who was preparing to say grace.

"Lord, thank you for providing us with food to eat during these trying times. Thank you for providing us with shelter and protection. Amen," said Alex's father as he said grace.

"Amen," said the remaining three people at the dining table before they started to devour the food on their plates.

There was toasted bread with a slight spread of butter on it. There was also a baked egg placed on the plate with two pieces of bacon placed next to the egg. There was also a glass of cold drink placed near each plate to help them consume their food.

The room turned silent as the family of four started to eat their breakfast. After a while of the sound of the utensils resonating throughout the dining room, the family of four finished their meals and started to get ready for work and college.

Alex exited his room after making sure that he had everything that he needed and then made his way down the stairs. He found his older sister, Alexa, waiting for him at the door.

He then made his way towards the door and said to his sister,"Let us leave before we gets late."

They both said their goodbyes to their parents and left the house. But not before their mother, Bethany, wished for good luck for her son, Alex.

After receiving his mother's best wishes, Alex excited their house and started to make their way to college.

On their way, they met up with Alexa's friends. They started talking to each other until they finally reached the college's entrance.

Alex took in a deep breath before stepping into the huge building. He then made his way to the principal's office - after asking for the directions of course.

When he reached the principal's office, he knocked on the door and after a few seconds, a deep voice resounded from the other side as he heard someone telling him to get in.

"Get in," said the deep voice from the other side of the door as the person on the other side of the door responded to the person who was knocking on the door to his office.

Alex steeled himself before opening the door and entered the principal's office. He looked around at the spacious office and could not help but admire the place. The walls were green and had lovely paintings of trees and plants on them. And he could see pictures of the different students as well as the staff hanging on the walls. He then looked at the shelves which had a lot of books in them and was surprised at the sheer amounts of books there. But what caught his attention was the ridiculous number of trophies lying about in the glass showcase which the principal had set up in his office. There were numerous medals in there as well, which ranged from Gold to Bronze. He then shifted his gaze towards the principal's table where he saw the principal's name plate placed on the corner of the table, while it faced towards the door which wrote George Capella across it. There was also a laptop placed in the middle of the principal's table. There was even a coffee mug on the table, which still had the hot content within the cup while steam raised from the cup.

*Cough*

Alex was brought out from his stupor by a resounding cough. He then looked towards the principal who was seated behind his table. He has white hair and wrinkles on his face to show his aging. He also has jet black eyes that were menacing.

"If you are done staring, you can take a seat," said the principal as his deep voice resounded in the office.

"Uh y-yes. S-sorry about that," said Alex as he rubbed the back of his neck, showing that he was embarrassed.

"It's okay. You must be Alex, right?" asked the principal as he picked up his coffee mug and took a sip from its contents.

"Yes sir," replied Alex as he responded to the principal with a serious tone.

The principal then stood up and made his way towards the door and looked at Alex and said to him,"Follow me towards the examination hall where you will be taking your examination."

'What the fuck ?! Then why tell me to sit down ?!' thought Alex as he stood up and followed the principal towards the examination hall.

He reached the examination hall and looked at the huge space inside of it. He then made his way inside of the huge room and took a seat at the front desk.

The instructor came in and gave him his examination and motioned for him to start.

Alex still had his knowledge from the past and he was confident in his knowledge and ability to pass the test with flying colours.

He started to answer the questions as he found them easy...

Three hours later, he handed in his examination and was told that he will be informed about his results later today.

He then left the college after sorting his registration stuff out and then made his way back towards the exit only to bump into someone on his way out.
