Chapter 3

I woke around 8 am and immediately got dressed and headed out the door. I carried my backpack with my super suit inside. I walked up to the front desk to speak to the lady there.

"Hi." I said "I need to leave for an interview. I'm going to miss all my classes today."

She nodded "Name?"

"Elizabeth Sparrow. Hero name Violet Skull."

She nodded once more "You're excused for all your classes today. Ms. Sparrow."

"Thank you. Also, my younger siblings might come along later. Same last name. If you see them tell them I'm at spot H-3."

She nodded and I left heading towards my parking spot. Soon after Nina and Noah were walking towards me.

"Put your bags in the trunk and hop in the back."

"But I want to sit shotgun," Nina complained

"That's not fair to Noah, is it? Both of you sit in the back. My backpack gets shotgun."

I climbed in, setting my backpack next to me and they both sat in the back. As I drove they talked on and on about some trading card game they'd both started playing. I did my best to tune them out until we arrived at our childhood house at noon exactly.

"We're here!" I said as we all climbed out of the car

The house looked the same as it had when I left four years ago. Greenish-gray walls and bright orange door. The only difference was a sign that said 'Home of Violet Skull'. My parents had been bragging to everyone about me since I had become so popular recently. There were a couple neighbors outside and my mom made sure they saw when she hugged me. I pushed her off forcefully and she looked a bit surprised but didn't say anything. My dad came out but didn't try to hug me. Instead, he led me and my siblings inside to get ready for the interview.

"Get your suit on" Was the first thing he said to me

I headed to my old room but found it had been transformed into a guest room so I just changed in the bathroom instead. As soon as I came out into the hallway a hair and makeup crew attacked me. They started brushing my long brown hair and tried getting it to curl unsuccessfully. They caked my face in makeup trying to make my purple eyes pop even more. After all, they were part of the reason for my hero name. They didn't approve of my hero suit and fiddled with it making it 'more stylish'. When I was finally done I could hardly recognize myself.

"Here are the rules." My mom said to me when they finished "No matter what, keep smiling. Don't check your phone. Don't talk unless spoken to. If they tell you to pose for a shot you pose. You do not leave the chair until they say you can. Most importantly you must answer all the questions with the answer people want to hear, not what you want to say."

I nodded and we headed out to the family car. I noticed as we walked that my sibling's makeup wasn't anywhere near as heavy as mine and their hair wasn't styled at all. We arrived and I was immediately pulled backstage.

"And the moment you've all been waiting for! Here's Violet Skull!" An announcer said in an all too cheery voice.

I walked calmly out onto the stage and found a large audience plus many cameras.

"Well, Violet Skull have a seat." The announcer said and I took the seat across from him "Welcome onto the show. I'm Alex. A lot of the audience has been wondering what your name is."

"Violet Skull," I said

"Well yes but what's your real name?"

"I can't tell you my last name but my first name's Elizabeth. Most people simply call me Eliza."

"Well Eliza, here's how this is going to go. I'm going to ask you some questions then the audience will be able to ask you questions. First question: what is the full extent of your powers?"

"Well I can move objects with my mind but I can also mind control or project images to another's mind."

"Cool. What number am I thinking of?"

"24,593"

"That's correct. Wow. Next question: do you plan on kids?"

"No. I don't want to have kids."

"Why not?"

"I honestly think being a hero is enough. Being a hero with kids seems impossible."

"I guess that makes sense. Question three:"

It went on like this for a while before he finally let some questions from the audience.

"Why are your eyes purple?" A young girl asked

"No one really knows. Maybe it's because of my powers."

"Can you make me fly?" Another kid asked

"Not right now. That doesn't seem safe here."

They were easy questions to answer mostly from kids until the last one.

"I took a picture of you kissing supervillain Heatwave. Are you guys dating?" one fan asked

"I never did such a thing!" I exclaimed "Maybe I was under mind control? No, we are not dating."

"All signs point in one direction. Yes. You're always called on because you defeat them quickly but how do they keep getting out again? You."

"No, that's not true."

"Then how do they escape?"

"Uhh"

"Exactly!"

I ran off the stage quickly unsure what else to do. I found my family outside and someone gestured for the twins to follow them backstage.

"You're dating a girl!?" My mom yelled at me

"You're dating a supervillain!?" My dad yelled

"It's not true. I swear! It's just a rumor."

"Everyone is guilty until proven innocent." My dad said "I don't want to look at you. We'll drive you back then you have three minutes to grab your stuff and leave."

"You are never allowed back." My mom added

"I didn't want to stay with you anyway! You forced me to come here!" I yelled

I started to storm off but my mom grabbed my arm

"Leave me alone!" I yelled but she didn't let go. "I said leave me alone!"

I pushed her so hard she was forced to let go. She fell back in the dirt ruining her brand new dress. My dad was yelling at me to turn around but I ignored him and began the long trek back.
