Chapter 11 : Letting Go

*Lila’s POV*

The pappardelle was doing nothing for me. It was delicious of course, but the Marino’s had given me too much to think about to put much attention into the food in front of me. My gaze was focused on Rafe as he enjoyed his own ravioli.

“Have you really never been?” I prompted. “I mean, the Marino’s have been around since before you grandfather started up the company.”

“It’s certainly incredible that despite all this time I’ve never learned of the place, but sometimes you can go your whole life never meeting someone—that’s why I’m thankful I got to meet you.”

Nooo, he wasn’t supposed to be sweet right now, not when I was subtly trying to fish for answers.
