Chapter 8 : A Castle in the Storm

I felt a huge leaden weight fly off me when I saw the first sparkling spires through the trees.

Aldrich immediately quickened the pace, eager to be back before dark. By the looks of it, we were only a mile or so away.

The sun was dipping toward the horizon, marking the second night I’d spend outside the only home I’d ever known.

Lord Aldrich warned against going back there. I almost laughed when he said that. What did he know? Nothing! Who was he to be giving me advice on how to reclaim my home? Only, he didn’t know anything about who I really was.

He didn’t know that Dryden only wanted my sisters and me because of the blood in our veins and the status he stole from us. As far as Aldrich knew, we were rogue wolves with no place to call home. Yet, he still cared enough to warn me from going back.

The forest slowly thinned from trees, to shrubbery, to long wild grass, and then finally to a cobbled road that led to the foot of a bridge.
