Chapter 21 : Priorities and Opening Up

Haven’s POV

The night is a tense, miserable mess. Spending the night in the hospital is never a pleasant experience unless you are in one of the upscale places with loads of insurance and an endless supply of funds to get the nice snacks and decent care.

Sadly, my family does not fall under the category to obtain any of those perks.

Instead, my mother sleeps in a chair right beside my father, head laying on the mattress beside him as she clutches his cold hand.

I am sleeping, if I can even call it that, in a slightly upright position against the wall. I am in one of the chairs that have no head support and years of wear and tear, leaving parts of the cushion lumpy and other bits pointed to hit in the most uncomfortable ways.

Cruz is also sleeping in some kind of upright position. Despite me telling him that he did not need to stay throughout the evening, he insisted that he stay and that it was important that he make sure I was all right.
