CHAPTER 02

THE DECEPTIVE

He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully,

He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

PSALMS 24:4-5

Ignacia was aware of the queen's deceptive ways. She saw her walking from the entrance of the new king's palace. She wore that black gown and a black veil to cover her face customarily for a wailing widow. Her procession is two ladies and three guards followed. It was the smallest group indeed of a queen's parade. Ignacia knew how cold-hearted and malevolent the queen dowager was from the first time she saw her when she was twelve years old in the palace. Martyna was a beautiful orphan girl aged fifteen when married Prince Nicolau.

It was winter season when King Faustus and Prince Nicolau who was eighteen years old expedited the wild beasts at Huntsville. He was skillful to use spears and arrows. The young prince impressed his king grandfather when he shoot a fast runner wild deer after he had killed the lion and three foxes.

Prince Nicolau decided to inspect himself the dead beast in a snowing ground about fifty meters from his distance. He departed awhile from his convoy as he dismounted from his horse. His arrow struck the left eye of the poor beast while the other was on its stomach. He heard the sobs of a girl somewhere. He immediately pulled his arrow from the deer's body and searched for anyone who might be seeking help. His boots sunken in the soft icy ground while he looked the bushes around. He saw a young girl fitting herself into a narrow space in the midst of thorny bushes. She was frightened of a lioness waiting for her to be prey. Prince Nicolau used his sharp daggers to strike the deadly part animal's body, and the brute beast lay on the ground defeated.

"Come on, don't be afraid I am Prince Nicolau. You are safe now."

Martyna was amused looking at the lifeless enemy and an adorable gentleman. His fine clothing is surely from a wealthy family in Burlington.

"Come on, don't be afraid I am Prince Nicolau. You are safe now," he repeated.

'A prince?' She repeated the idea in her mind.

She thought of how folly it was to ignore a prince when it's not all time he had a chance with this luck.

Ignacia observed Queen Martyna when she enters the young king's chamber that late hour of the night. She must be watchful overnight or the days of a young king will not be prolonged.

Ignacia saw King Nicolau's eyes and looked with love to Queen Martyna. He even saw the evil desires of a woman's heart but she pitied her. Her beauty blinded him so, that he can give her half of the kingdom.

After the death of King Faustus, Prince Nicolau joined his soldiers in the war. He needs to establish dignity among kingdoms how powerful is Burlington with its new king? He even left queen dowager Preliha - his grandmother, his beloved queen Martyna - his wife, and baby prince Mackis -his firstborn son at Burlington palace to join the army to war. The late dowager queen envied Queen Martyna because she was being loved that much by his king's grandson. And the hatred of the old queen dowager increased when she learned how much whoring Martyna did after a few days of the king leaving to join the war for the kingdom.

She organized parties and made the princes drunk and slept with them at night.

Queen Dowager Preliha planned to poison Queen Martyna because of her shameful deeds. But Queen Martyna hated that queen dowager had planned a long time ahead of queen dowager's death and not had a chance after King Nicolau left for the expedition.
