CHAPTER 12

BOUGHT A PRINCE FROM SLAVERY

Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hatn dealt bountifully with thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.

PSALMS 116:7-8

Since he was bought by Osaka the merchant after his two days journey from Burlington, sold by the hoodlums on his way, living five days, three Sundays, and five months at Osaka’s manor the slavery life for Mackis was barely survival.

It was a fine lucky day for him and other poor slaves whenever the master feed them bread once a day. Unluckily most of the days nothing at all after the day of hard work.

The pack he brought with him on his journey has its container of water and bread he consumed on his way. It also contained some precious gems and stones he used to secretly buy food from the outside for him and other men, women, and children servants with him. They were workers in the field of Osaka and his huge manor.

Osaka punished every single mistake of slaves with twenty to fifty lashes or torment of heated iron from the fire or death for those who tried to escape from his sadistic grasp.

"Bastard thieves! Who's an idea to steal food from mine house?" He Enquired Osaka as he saw slaves eating bread and meat in the field after the hard work.

"Answer! Before I cut off your tongues! He shouted angrily.

"I have bought food for them," Mackis answered for slaves were seems mute as they learned the punishment awaited them.

"You fool thief! I will cut your head for this unpleasant defiance!" Osaka bickered him and kicked his belly but one of the men's slaves covered to receive his affliction instead. It heightened Osaka's fury to Mackis and his hero. Osaka slapped the slave hardly with condemnation.

"The whip!" He shouted from his standing men. One of them provided him the flail to burst his violence towards them.

Osaka swung the lash hardly in the air and whipped the slave man in his front. The poor man stooped down to the ground in misery. Osaka again swung up the flail to whip Mackis but two of the slaves willingly caught the penalty for him.

Osaka waved the thresh even harder. He whipped hardly every slave in the barn. There were screaming and flowing tears from dreadful torment. The lashes caused by the flail left every flesh nasty bleeding. Mackis hardly swallow the pains in his young heart.

"Where did you get the silvers to buy foods to tame my dogs?" Osaka asked him while continually scourge the pitiable fellows. Blood from the faces of men, women, and children was brimming but the brute beast seems not satisfied.

"Stop this instance!" Mackis snatched efficiently the sharp-edged sword from one of Osaka's men. His rightful anger towards heartless acts heightened as it reminds him of Queen Martyna his mother. The thought fills anger inside him, he cannot feel pain in his young heart anymore! His fury mirrored the hatred of slaves with him. Osaka's five men fought Mackis but they never surpassed him. Osaka was astonished as his five toughest thugs were lying on the ground bleeding almost dead.

"I -I will forgive you now for this-," Osaka said unsure of the reaction to display afraid to say the wrong word to intense Mackis' anger.

"Y- you are now dismissed,-" Osaka astoundingly said to ail slaves. His demons seem to flee from his body. His questions on how slaves have eaten their own foods concern him not at all - in terror.

After Osaka left the slaves and his dying men in the barn, Mackis and other slaves with bearable injuries helped him mend everyone's wounds. The men despite their pains thanked him profusely. He gained respect among Osaka's slaves.

Mackis entered with Nomi inside their dwelling with two wide rooms on it. A woman they brought with them from the market lay on a couch inside their tiny living room.

Sugre's arrow struck her arm!

Precila and her old mother Bruka applied leaves of salve to alleviate bleeding. The two women mend her the best they can to make the pain bearable for the poor victim. The sharp arrow piercing her fragile arm must be removed anyway.
