Mimi’s POV
I want to end things with Lander. I can't stand his love anymore. It's suffocating me. I can't breathe. Everywhere I go, I hear that song. That stupid song he made for me. Lander has gone too far this time. He has crossed the line. I have had enough. I have made up my mind. I want to break up with him. I want to end this nightmare. 'Fei, I'm done with him. My love is gone. It's dead. I don't want him anymore.' I told my best friend, who was sitting on her bed, reading a novel.
I expected her to give me a lecture or a sarcastic remark. And she did. 'Really? You don't want him anymore? Wow, what a surprise. Come on, Mimi; you can't treat people like toys. You can't just pick them up and throw them away whenever you feel like it. You know that, right? And besides, I told you so. I told you this would happen. You and Lander are not compatible at all. Your personalities clash like fire and water. But did you listen to me? No, you didn't. You ignored my advice and went ahead with your stupid crush. And now you're telling me you want to break up with him. How ironic! You make me laugh. And not in a good way.'
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I knew Fei would say something like that. Fei is the type of person who always supports and opposes what's wrong. She is the type of person who will scold you sincerely if you matter to her. But sometimes, Iris sounds more like a mother than a friend. That's just how she is. Iris hates it when people play with other people's emotions or hurt them intentionally. She values honesty and loyalty above all else. But she did warn me about Lander. She saw through his facade and predicted our doom. She was right, and I was wrong. But she doesn't understand how I felt then and how I feel now. She has never been in love before.
'Yeah, Fei, I get it. You were right, and I was wrong. You win, okay? Are you happy now? I need a solution to end things with Lander, not your endless lecture.
'Do I look like a problem solver to you? You created this mess and expect me to clean it up for you? Sorry, girl, that's not how it works.'
'Please, Fei, please. Just this one time, I promise I will listen to you from now on. Please help me. He's embarrassing me too much. I can't take it anymore.' I know Fei is serious about what she's saying. She's not joking at all. But I need her help. Lander has to be stopped. He has taken his love too far and made me sick of it. I know Fei thinks I'm a frivolous person who doesn't know what love is. But can you blame me? I don't care what people think of me. I want to break up with him and be free from the drama I practically entered. And to do that, I need Fei's brains. She's intelligent and rational. She knows how to handle situations like this.
'Ugh! Why do I always find myself in the middle of your dramas? Can't I have a drama-free day without your love troubles and enjoy my high school life peacefully? You have ruined my plans of passing through high school as a nobody. But you won't stop bothering me if I don't help you. Fine, fine, fine. I'll help you with this once, and that's it. Do you hear me? Next time, fix your problems on your own.'
'Thank you! Thank you so much! You're a lifesaver! I can't thank you enough! I owe you one, Fei!'
'Yeah, whatever. Don't get too excited yet. It's not going to be easy to break up with Lander. He's not going to let you go without a fight.'
'I don't care how hard it is or how much he resists. I want to end this.'
'Well then, here's what you must do: You must tell him honestly why you want to break up with him. Don't beat around the bush or sugar-coat it. Make it clear that you don't love him anymore and want to move on. And if he still insists on staying with you, state your case and walk away. It's that simple.'
'Simple? That sounds like a suicide mission!' 'No, it's not. It's the only way to end this. Trust me, and I know what I'm talking about.' 'Okay, okay. I trust you. But when should I do it? Where should I do it? How should I do it?' 'You should do it as soon as possible before he does something else to embarrass you. It would help if you did it somewhere public, where he can't make a scene or hurt you. And you should do it calmly and firmly, without showing any hesitation or regret.'
'All right, all right. I got it. I'll do it.'
'Good. Now go and get ready. Lander will be here any minute.'
'What? Will he be here? How do you know?'
'Because he texted me earlier. He said he has a surprise for you.'
'A surprise? Oh no, not another one! What is it this time?'
'I don't know. But whatever it is, don't let it sway you from your decision. Remember, you want to break up with your guy.'
'Yeah, yeah, I remember. But what if Lander...' Before I could finish my sentence, the door slammed open, and Lander walked in with a guitar and a smile. He looked at me and said: 'Hey babe, I have a surprise for you.' And then he started singing: 'You are my Angela...'
