THE LAST SONG (13)

Lander’s POV

I couldn't wait to see Mimi. I had a surprise for her. A gift that I had poured my heart and soul into. A surprise that would show her how much I loved her. I had made a cover song for her. A cover of 'Angela' by Kuami Eugene. A song that was popular among us high school kids. A song that captured my feelings for her. I had changed the lyrics to fit our names and our relationship. I had sung about how much I loved her, how much she meant to me, how much I wanted to be with her forever.

I recorded the song and uploaded it on YouTube. I shared it with all our friends and classmates. I had made it go viral. I wanted everyone to know that Mimi was my Angela. That Mimi was my everything. I wanted Mimi to know that she was my Angela. Mimi was my everything and meant more to me than Mimi could fathom. I knew she would love it. I knew she would appreciate it. I knew she would be proud of me.

She always loved my songs. She always supported my music. She always encouraged my talent. She always made me feel special. She always made me feel happy. She always made me feel loved. She was the best girlfriend ever.

She was the perfect match for me. We had been dating for six months now. Six months of bliss and happiness. Six months of romance and passion. We were the envy of everyone in school. We were the perfect couple. We were the definition of love. I loved her more than anything in the world. And she loved me back. Or so I thought. I walked to her dorm room with a guitar and a smile.

I knocked on the door and waited for her to open it. I imagined how she would react when she saw me. She would smile and hug me and kiss me. She would thank me, praise me and love me. She would listen to my songs, sing along and dance to the tune. She would tell me that I was her Lander... That's what I hoped for. That's what I dreamed of. That's what I lived for. But that's not what happened. She opened the door after a few seconds and looked at me with a surprised and annoyed expression. She didn't smile or hug or kiss me. She didn't thank or praise or love me.

She didn't listen to my song. She didn't even sing along or dance with me. She didn't tell me that I was her Lander... She looked at me like I was a stranger. Mimi looked at me like I was a nuisance as if I was nothing. But I ignored that. I missed the signs that something was wrong. I disregarded the feeling that something was about to change. I paid no heed to the reality that was about to hit me. I smiled at her and said: 'Hey babe, I have a surprise for you.' And then I walked into her room and started singing: 'You are my Angela...'
