Mimi’s POV
I woke up the following day with a headache and a bad feeling. I had a nightmare about Lander. He was chasing me with a knife and a crazed look in his eyes. He was shouting and swearing and threatening to kill me. He blamed me for everything that went wrong in his life. He was saying that I was the reason he lost his mind. I tried to run away from him, but he was faster and more robust. He caught up with me and pinned me down. He raised his knife and stabbed me in the chest.
I screamed and woke up. It was just a dream. But it felt so real. It felt like a premonition. It felt like a warning. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 6:30 a.m. I had to get ready for the exam. I had to face Lander. I got out of bed and went to the bathroom. I washed my face and brushed my teeth. I looked at myself in the mirror and saw the fear and anxiety in my eyes. I was scared of Lander. I was scared of what he might do to me. I was scared of what he might do to himself. He had gone berserk yesterday. He had lost control. He had scared me. He grabbed his guitar and smashed it against the wall. He had screamed and cursed and cried.
He had thrown things around the room and broken them into pieces. He had punched and kicked and hit anything in his way. He had gone mad. He had lost his sanity. He had scared me. I backed away from him, trying to avoid his wrath and violence. I looked at Fei, who was frozen on her bed, too shocked and scared to move, speak, or help me. I looked around the room, looking for a way out.
But there wasn’t one. I was trapped in this nightmarish situation that I brought upon myself. I’m stuck with him. With Lander, who was no longer the sweet boy who loved me with all his heart. With Lander, who was now a furious beast who hated me with all his soul. I didn't know what to do.
I didn't know how to stop him. I didn't know how to calm him down. I just hoped that someone would hear the noise and come to help us. I just hoped that someone would save us from this madness. But no one came. No one heard us. No one helped us. We were alone in this hell. We were alone with each other. And then he stopped. He stopped his rampage and looked at me with a twisted and broken expression. He looked at me with a mix of love and hatred, of hope and despair, of regret and resentment.
He looked at me with tears and blood on his hands. He looked at me and said: 'Mimi, please don't leave me.' ‘Please stay by my side. ‘ He said it with pain and sincerity that it almost broke my heart. Almost. But not quite. I remembered why I wanted to break up with him in the first place, all because he was too clingy and obsessive, he was too cheesy and corny, he was too embarrassing and annoying, he was too much for me, and the love I had for him was no more. And because Lander had just shown me how dangerous he could be when he didn't get what he wanted. Lander had just shown me how mad he could be when he didn't have what he needed.
Lander had just shown me how scary he could be when you don’t feel what he feels. He had just shown me he was not the boy I fell in love with six months ago. He had just shown me he was no longer the boy I wanted to be with. He had just shown me that he was no longer the boy for me.
So, I looked at him with a cold and distant expression. I spoke to him with a harsh and cruel voice. I told him with a harsh and brutal tone. 'No', That was it. That was my answer. That was my decision. That was my resolution. No, I wouldn't stay with him. No, I wouldn't go back to him. I wouldn't fall for him again. I wouldn't be his Angela anymore. No, no, no. And then I ran. I ran out of the room as fast as I could.
I ran away from him as far as my shaky legs would take me. I ran towards Fei, who was waiting for me outside the door after she managed to shake off the fear. I ran towards the exit that was at the end of the hall. I ran towards the freedom that was waiting for me outside. I ran, and I didn't look back. I ran, and I didn't stop. I ran, and I didn't regret it. I ran, and I didn't care. I ran, and I didn't feel anything. I ran, and I didn't think about him. I ran, and I left him behind. I ran, and I ended it all.
