59. Zac

Several weeks had passed since I had joined the fight club. Money was accumulating in my coffers and I felt satisfied with the power I had acquired.

Orland didn't ask many questions about my past and didn't talk about Carter either, which made me question why I made a deal with him.

From the beginning I knew he was manipulative and a liar, but I also had my way of accumulating knowledge. In the time I had been in the fights, I had gained some trust with the fighters, getting together to drink with them, pretending to be drunk and sleeping with some of them when the opportunity arose.

It was at one of those stupid meetings that Carter came up in conversation. I didn't even have to mention it, it was them in their drunkenness that belittled him as if his play on the death circuit had been some kind of joke.

My eyes showed some frustration as my voice feigned drunkenness.
