I have never been in a car before. I have always used an old bike I owned when I had to get somewhere far. Me and Kinai-san were sitting in the back seat. Whenever I turned towards her, she would give me a smile and ask something about me. I didn't know what she was after but whatever it was I didn't get it.
We finally arrived at our destination. It was just a cafe shop around 15 minutes from my apartment (by bike). We entered the shop and was directed to an already reserved seat. A man around the age of 40 or so wearing a suit offered me some water as Kinai-san sat beside me. I was nervous and didn't know what to do.
"My name is Ayanami Juni, if I have done something wrong, I apologize. Please just let me go."
"Please just let me go." I sounded like I was being kidnapped by a group of bandits. How stupid can I be?
The man smiled and laughed.
"Don't worry young man, I am not here to punish you or whatever. If you really did do something wrong I have zero authority to punish you. Let me introduce myself first. My name is Kinai Tokita, Kinai Tochaki's father. I am here to offer you two things. The first thing is a place to live."
"A place to live? Why?"
"You see, my daughter usually gets to school by car and one of my drivers would drop her off at school before going to work. However, today I had work early so I left early. I didn't want my daughter to arrive at school so early so she decided its fine for her to walk to walk to school today. However, we did not expect her to be assaulted the first time she walked by herself. Tochaki told us a boy saved her. When she asked for your name, you didn't respond. However, Tochaki saw something on the ground and as she got closer, it was your student ID card with your full name. That's how Tochaki we were able to know you are from her school and the same year as her as well. We are incredibly thankful for you saving her."
The kind father stood up and bowed towards me. I frantically stood up and panicked.
"Please Tokita-san, I just did what any person would have done in this situation. There is no reason to offer me a place to live for someone like me!"
Tokita-san then rose up and hugged me. I became more frantic than ever… until something came to me…
"My Juni, are you alright? Mother is sorry for leaving you by yourself in the house. Come on, let mommy give you a huge one."
The warmth of something I haven't experienced in years came back to me. Tears flowed down my eyes and I didn't know why. Am I really crying because of a huge? Am such a wimp.
The father finally let go of me and saw the tears in my eyes. Kinai-san, who had been holding my hand the whole entire time, didn't know why I was crying, but she knew something wasn't right and held me.
"Ayanami-san, would it be alright for us to talk alone for a second?"
The father's request was weird and Kinai-san was weirded out by it as well. I had no reason to refuse so we both walked outside the cafe shop.
"When we knew it was you who saved my daughter, I had a few of my friends do a background check on you. You live by yourself because your parents were murdered by someone who broke inside your house when you were young?
I was shocked that he knew my secret. That day when my life was changed.
"Our offer to you was originally just a huge sum of cash, but after learning about your past, my daughter and I both decided that giving you a place where you can live a healthier and better life was better. You don't have to worry about paying me back, saving our beloved daughter was anything I could ask for from a high school young man."
I knew I had to accept the deal. Can I finally be freed from the dream that reminds me of that day?
"With all respect sir, I greatly thank you for offering me this opportunity. However, if I may ask, why must we talk in private about this matter?"
I was confused as to why Kinai-san can't hear about this matter.
"My daughter has not learned about your past yet. You may be wondering as to what she doesn't know yet, because as soon as Tochaki learns about whether it is an animal or a person who has a sad past, she would immediately do everything in her power to help that person to the point of not even sleeping herself. I understand keeping her in the dark for the time being isn't the best but for the sake of her own health and your privacy, I hope you would understand."
Yea it made sense. I don't want her own health to go back for someone like me anyways.
"Will you ever tell her about my past later?"
"For sure, she knows that you had a hard time when you were young but she doesn't know how terrible it is yet."
"I understand, if I may request, could I tell her about this matter later in time?"
"For sure."
We went back inside the cafe shop and as soon as Kinai-san saw we returned, she immediately held my hand again for some reason.
"And this is the second offer I am giving to you young man."
"The second offer?"
"Yes, after inspecting your background even further, we found out your grades have significantly declined entering high school. We have decided to give you a private tutor to help you study. The life of our daughter is something I am willing to pay with any amount of anything. Your future cost will all be taken care of by us, however, that also means you would have to start doing well in school."
Can I really turn my life around? I can finally see a spark of light after I was consumed by darkness after all these years since that day, however, there seems to be something I am still missing.
"Thank you for this amazing opportunity. If I may ask, who will be this private tutor?"
At first I thought I would be a normal retired teacher but it seems that wasn't the case.
"Haha, she is right next to you."
She is right next to me? Oh right, I forgot the beautiful princesses that have been holding my hand the whole entire time.
"Its me!"
Kinai-san proudly stated the job she was given to help me study.
"My daughter has always been on top of her studies. I am sure under her guidance, you would start to succeed in your future studies."
Tokita-san's statement only made Kinai-san more arrogant.
"Get ready to study hard! Tochaki-sensei will be very strict!"
I don't know how this will turn out. Hopefully my life won't be just books and tests. The two opportunities given to me is not something anyone can just so happen to encounter. I will use these offers to the best of my abilities. What comes around will always come back to you, right father?
