Chapter Thirteen

#Chapter Thirteen

"Thanks for coming to the dance," Serene said politely to the singer, who was swearing off a life of marriage for a life of debauchery. She stared at him as he gave her body a sweeping look, his eyes full of hunger. If Frank refused, then maybe this man would be the replacement. She desperately needed that baby.

"Pleasure, Your Ladyship," the singer said as he leered at her.

"Do you have a moment? I would like to show you one room," she said. "In private, of course."

"Sure, if you want me so badly," he whispered with a twinkle of his eyes. "My mom is just around the corner, she'll be right there with us."

"Your mom?"

"Oh, she sits in all the time."

Serene sighed, shaking her head and walking away as the singer called out to her behind her back. She moved to another man, this time who looked to be about twenty years older than she was.

"Hello, gentleman," she said. "How are you?"

"Lovely, Your Ladyship."

"Would you like to retreat to a certain room in private to catch some air?"

He was stunned for a moment but regained composure immediately. "I prefer four legs, my dear."

She sighed heavily and walked away. Why on earth was this so hard? She wandered about the room, looking for more men who were fine with casual sexual encounters, but discovered nobody who fits her requirements. She headed out of her mansion to get some air in the night, and that was when she spotted Lachlan playing with his dog. Her heart raced in her chest as thoughts ran in her mind.

And she stepped forth to talk to him.
