The Terrifying Su Family

Upon returning to the banquet hall, the bored Su Chen began wandering around aimlessly. This kind of scenario, where no one recognized him, was simply too comfortable for Su Chen. It felt so relaxing. At the same time, he tried to overhear the discussions of these so-called high-class individuals to see if they were discussing anything related to him. Regrettably, no one recognized him as the young master of the Su family. 

The more Su Chen thought about it, the more he felt something was off. After all, he was a public figure; it was impossible that no one would recognize him. He concluded that due to the script, he shouldn't even be present, so everyone's minds automatically filtered him out. This was a standard method of the system, and Su Chen was well aware of it. Of course, there were still those who noticed him. Chen Tong's gaze never left Su Chen's figure. She looked at him as if he owed her a lot of money and refused to pay back. 

Her gaze was almost devouring. Su Chen thought, "You can't eat people, but you can have candy." Su Chen didn't care, choosing to ignore her to avoid unnecessary trouble. His priority was to quickly complete his plan, first to get rid of Lin Qingyan, then Yang Yuxin. However, seeing Su Chen ignoring her only made Chen Tong angrier. She glared at him, as if she wanted to tear him apart right there and then.

At the same time, Chen Fan noticed the look Chen Tong was giving Su Chen. It was filled with extreme anger. He was one of the few who had seen her look so enraged. "It seems what Brother Qin said was right; big sister really agreed," he thought. 

"Poor Su Chen, he has no idea what's coming for him!" Chen Fan was also a pampered young master. But he couldn't stand how Su Chen was so much more popular than him. If not for Chen Tong, who was Su Chen anyway? This was typical resentment between young masters. 

Excitedly, Chen Fan approached Chen Tong and asked in a tone seeking credit, "Sis, how are you planning to deal with Su Chen?" Chen Tong, now with a milder expression, looked at Chen Fan in surprise, "How do you know I'm going to deal with Su Chen?"

"Sis, just tell me directly. What should I do?" 

Chen Fan thought, "Isn't it obvious? You've already accepted Qin Yu's proposal." 

Chen Tong waved him off, slightly annoyed, "Just stick to the original plan." 

"What?" Chen Fan was taken aback. The original plan was simple: their Chen family from Shanghai would help Qin Yu, putting pressure on the Su family and helping Qin Yu win the favor of Elder Lin. While this seemed like a severe blow to Su Chen, it wasn't fatal. 

Chen Fan wondered, "Shouldn't sister now help Qin Yu to deal with Su Chen with all her might? Why is she showing mercy?"

The more Chen Fan thought about it, the more he felt something was off. This didn't match the character of the devilish woman he knew. Just as he wanted to inquire, Chen Tong spoke first, "By the way, play it by ear. If you can cancel the wedding between Su Chen and Lin Qingyan, that would be best." 

When Chen Tong said this, she instinctively glanced at Su Chen, her gaze somewhat distant and shy. The reason she wanted to cancel the engagement between Su Chen and Lin Qingyan was that she had her own selfish motives. But what those motives were, even she couldn't articulate.

Chen Fan was taken aback, especially because he had noticed a shyness in Chen Tong's face that he hadn't seen in years when she mentioned Su Chen. "What are you waiting for? Go!" Upon hearing Chen Tong's command, Chen Fan was instinctively afraid. 

Growing up being scolded and beaten made this fear a natural reaction. Despite his confusion, he didn't dare hesitate and immediately left to carry out Chen Tong's instructions. Originally, whenever Chen Tong thought of Su Chen, she would get angry, and now, it seemed Chen Fan became the target of her frustration. 

However, before Chen Fan left, he first approached Qin Yu to inform him that everything was ready. Hearing this, Qin Yu smiled slightly. This time he wanted to make Su Chen feel despair and wanted him to see his beloved woman in his arms. Qin Yu was very proud, eagerly anticipating the sight of a distraught Su Chen. 

Being the protagonist with strong intuition, he quickly located where Su Chen was. "Su Chen, this time I want to see how you'll escape from the palm of my hand," Qin Yu thought, truly wishing he could kill Su Chen on the spot. He had such intentions, but instead of killing him outright, he preferred to torture Su Chen thoroughly, to destroy his family, and to firmly control Su Chen's beloved woman, Su Xian'er, making Su Chen feel the most pain in the world. 

At that moment, Su Chen also sensed the rage emanating from Qin Yu. Their eyes met. Su Chen could see the confidence in Qin Yu's eyes and knew the War God had returned. Without hesitation, he knew he could start his plan.

"Hey, hey, hey, can your Lin family's people keep an eye out? You even let people like this in," Su Chen said as he walked towards Qin Yu, his face full of disdain. He perfectly embodied the image of a pampered young master. 

Qin Yu glared back and mocked, "I thought it was someone important. Turns out it's Su Chen, the young master of the Su family. But I think you came to the wrong place. It seems no one from the top ten families attended this banquet, did they?" 

The insinuation was clear; Su Chen was just a bootlicker. As soon as Qin Yu said this, everyone's attention turned to Su Chen. 

"The young master of the Su family?" 

"Is it that Su family?" 

"Idiot, what other Su family could it be?" 

Su Chen being recognized immediately caused a stir at the banquet. Many people came forward, choosing to help Su Chen against Qin Yu, hoping to curry favor. 

"Young Master Su, I didn't expect to see you here!" Those clearly much older than Su Chen were trying their best to ingratiate themselves with him.

The best way to flatter was, of course, to insult Qin Yu, ideally driving him out. "Qin Yu, do you even belong here?" one person taunted. "Have you ever looked in the mirror? Do you think you're worthy of being here?" another added. "Get lost! Your mere presence here is a disgrace."

While Qin Yu does have a significant standing in the city, no one would dare to side with him in front of Su Chen. Su Chen, seeing this unfold, felt truly pleased. "At last, something goes my way," he thought, watching the sycophants rally around him, relishing in the display of their loyalty. 

"Where's the Lin family's representative? What kind of people are they allowing in?" Su Chen's voice boomed, ensuring everyone in attendance could hear his clear irritation.

Members of the Lin family, recognizing the tension, realized it was their time to step in. "My apologies, Young Master Su," a man who appeared to be the Lin family's butler said, bowing slightly to Su Chen. Without delay, a group of bodyguards surrounded Qin Yu. 

"Sir, you were not invited to this event. Please leave, or we will have to take more assertive measures," the butler declared. 

Su Chen added with a smirk, "Qin Yu, you think you're worthy to challenge me? See where that's gotten you now."

However, to Su Chen's surprise, Qin Yu remained composed, confidently responding, "I was invited. You can't force me out!" 

"Invited?" the Lin family's butler laughed, " Young Master Su has spoken. No invitation will save you now." "So, the Lin family bows down to Su's every command?" Qin Yu retorted, silencing the crowd with his words.

Su Chen watched everything with glee, playing along with his act. "Why are you all wasting time talking to him? Throw him out!" he ordered. The crowd, eager to see the spectacle unfold, watched with mocking expressions. But just then, a deep voice echoed from the entrance, "Hold on! I'd like to see who dares to throw out a guest I personally invited."

Hearing the voice, Su Chen was even more delighted. He didn't need to guess; it was undoubtedly the patriarch of the Lin family, Elder Lin. As predicted by the original story, Qin Yu and Elder Lin shared a close friendship. Su Chen eagerly anticipated the forthcoming discussion on the marriage alliance. "Qin Yu was invited by me. I'd like to see who has the authority to kick him out!" declared Elder Lin, silencing everyone immediately.

After all, this was the Lin family's matter. Even though many wanted to curry favor with Su Chen, they felt it wasn't their place to speak out. People quickly realized that the situation wasn't as straightforward as they'd assumed. Su Chen, after all, was engaged to Lin Qingyan, and the Lin family's recent attitude suggested they weren't too keen on this engagement. This implied that the person targeted by Su Chen might have been brought by Elder Lin to counter Su Chen and the Su family.

However, Su Chen wasn't one to back down easily. "Patriarch Lin, are you trying to offend the Su family?" he boldly questioned. The atmosphere in the room immediately grew tense, and it was evident to everyone present that a silent battle was unfolding. 

"Young Master Su, this is the Lin family's business. It's not your place to interfere!" interjected Lin Tianlong, Lin Qingyan's father. Though Lin Qingyan wasn't fond of Qin Yu, her father had found him to be a promising individual after some interactions. In contrast, many in the upper echelons of the Lin family were not fond of Su Chen. 

The main reason being that Su Xian'er was proving to be incredibly powerful, making it unlikely for the Su family's future to be in Su Chen's hands. A wastrel with no use was bound to be discarded.

Frustrated, Su Chen snapped, "Is this how you repay someone after using their help? You'll regret this!" Su Chen's threatening demeanor pleased Qin Yu immensely. It seemed that he'd finally get his revenge. 

"Su Chen, the Su family might be powerful, but the Lin family won't back down!" Elder Lin shouted back. "You're welcome to stay if you behave, but if you cause trouble, don't expect me to respect the bond our families have shared for years." With that, Elder Lin turned and left without another word.

Su Chen looked visibly upset. He found Elder Lin's attitude nauseating. "What bond? Your Lin family was nothing more than a vassal to the Su family in the past," he thought bitterly. His budding feelings for Lin Qingyan diminished. 

It was a relief that their engagement could soon be called off. He thought, "Once it's over, I won't even bother with the Lin family. They can happily serve under Qin Yu!"

Watching Su Chen's discomfort, Qin Yu whispered mockingly, "The real show is yet to come. I have a surprise for you!" Su Chen rolled his eyes, dismissing Qin Yu's words. For some reason, he felt the male lead was becoming increasingly stupid.

Elder Lin's entrance captivated the onlookers, drawing their attention away from Su Chen. In the center of the venue, the focus of everyone's gaze, a beautiful figure emerged: Lin Qingyan. She had witnessed everything earlier. While she initially wanted to stand up for Su Chen, she held back for the sake of the bigger plan. As for Elder Lin, lost in a barrage of compliments, his smile only grew broader.

"Patriarch Lin still exudes such a strong presence," remarked Chen Dalong, Chen Tong's father. Although deep down, he somewhat looked down on the Lin family's methods, he was there and naturally would show the due respect. "Thank you for your kind words, Patriarch Chen. You still have your charms as well!" Elder Lin responded, fully aware of Chen Dalong's significance. The entire strength of the Lin family was arguably on par with the Su family, if not stronger.

Thus, Elder Lin was eager to forge a collaboration with Chen Dalong. At first, he was unsure about the approach to take. However, he later realized that Qin Yu had significant ties with the Chen family in Shanghai, even noticing how Chen Fan seemed to hold Qin Yu in high regard. 

This raised suspicions about Qin Yu's identity and the possibility of a more formidable background. Elder Lin thought that by fostering a relationship between Qin Yu and Lin Qingyan, the benefits to the Lin family would be substantial, potentially elevating them to greater heights. He even considered some of Qin Yu's plans, thinking they could replace the Su family's position.

However, his joy was short-lived. Within just a few minutes, he received unsettling news: the Su family had begun targeting Lin family businesses, acting ruthlessly, seemingly ready to incur losses just to hurt the Lin family. In mere moments, companies collaborating with the Lin family started pulling out. 

If this continued, the Lin family's century-old foundation would be ruined in less than an hour. What could have triggered such an aggressive move from Su Chen? Was their secret exposed? Impossible. Glancing at Su Chen, still in the venue, he quickly pieced everything together, filled with intense regret.

He'd underestimated the Su family's regard for Su Chen. "They're coddling a mere wastrel! The Su family is doomed!" However, Elder Lin's fury took a toll, causing him to sway before being helped into a seat. 

He fixed a murderous glare on Su Chen, wishing he could tear him apart on the spot. Leaving the event unscathed would now be impossible for Su Chen. Elder Lin's reaction made it clear to the attendees that Su Chen was involved. They all took out their phones, eager to uncover the unfolding drama. The consensus? The Su family had made its move against the Lin family.

While everyone anticipated eventual friction between the two families, no one expected the conflict to escalate so rapidly. And the Lin family seemed entirely unprepared for the onslaught from the Su family. 

It was only now that everyone truly grasped the terrifying might of the Su family in action. Their gazes towards Su Chen were filled with awe and respect. He was truly a force to be reckoned with.

Su Chen knew it was his moment. "Elder Lin, do you now see the consequences of crossing me?" He was internally pleased, all this had been orchestrated with the help of Su Xian'er.

"Lin family might seem formidable, but without Lin Qingyan's company's assistance, they're actually quite weak," Su Xian'er hadn't fully exerted her power, but the Lin family seemed to be faltering already. Moreover, even if Lin Qingyan tried to intervene at this juncture, it would probably be futile. The Lin family appears to have become a puppet in the hands of the Su family.

Su Chen, of course, brought forth a possible solution for the Lin family, which is the male lead, Qin Yu. Although Qin Yu currently doesn't hold much power, Su Chen has introduced him to Chen Tong. Su Chen mused internally, "Qin Yu, you must showcase your protagonist potential now. I've paved the path for you; please don't disappoint me."

However, Su Chen's words seemed to have caught the crowd off-guard. They never anticipated that Su Chen would confront the issue head-on. If not for Su Xian'er's prior protection, perhaps the Su family would have made their move against the Lin family a long time ago. The consensus was that Su Chen was utterly provoked by the recent actions of the Lin family, leading to this confrontation. All attendees eagerly awaited the unfolding of events.

Su Chen stated, "Mark my words, if the Lin family hopes to survive tomorrow, you better heed my commands." His intentions were clear: He wished for his impending wedding with Lin Qingyan to be finalized without delay. This was nothing short of a threat, indicating that if the Lin family conceded now, they would never regain their former glory.

"Su Chen, we won't bow down to such blatant coercion," a voice retorted. 

"Father, perhaps it's best we concede. The wrath of the Su family is not something we can handle." 

"Indeed, why not just let Qingyan marry him?" 

There was a whirlwind of emotions and a storm of dissenting opinions within the Lin family. The atmosphere was thick with confusion and tension.

The Lin family patriarch, with his aged and weary visage, appeared devastated. He was genuinely blindsided by Su Chen's audacity and found himself paralyzed with indecision. Yet, Lin Qingyan's parents harbored a harrowing suspicion: Could their cherished daughter be conspiring with Su Chen against them?

Certainly, Lin Qingyan was unaware of Su Chen's ulterior motives. However, amidst the Lin family members' palpable anxiety, anger, and trepidation, Lin Qingyan was the only one who seemed genuinely elated. She deduced that this elaborate setup was masterminded by Su Chen, making her all the more eager to witness the next act of this drama.

Suddenly, Su Chen felt Lin Qingyan's piercing gaze, which caught him off guard. He pondered, "Isn't she supposed to be defiant and resilient? The angrier I get, the more resolute she should become. What on earth? Where is the male lead hiding? He should make his grand entrance; the stage has been meticulously set for him."

Out of the blue, a voice rang out, "Patriarch Lin, stay calm. The situation has been dealt with." At last, Qin Yu, the male protagonist, emerged from the shadows. Observing Qin Yu's unwavering confidence and smirk, Su Chen struggled to suppress his impulse to slap him right across the face. With Qin Yu's timely arrival and his reassuring words, the despondent spirits of the once-deflated Lin family patriarch were suddenly lifted.

"That's correct, we're bolstered by Qin Yu's unwavering support."

"Our Lin family still has hope," the color in Patriarch Lin's face gradually improved. After all, standing behind Qin Yu is the formidable Chen family of Shanghai. Giving Lin Qingyan to him isn't an issue at all.

As long as it strengthens the Lin family, any sacrifice is acceptable. Patriarch Lin stood up and chuckled, "Young Master Qin Yu, do you have a solution?"

Qin Yu confidently slid his hands into his pockets. His assurance made Patriarch Lin view him as a savior. "Rest assured, Patriarch Lin. While the Su family is influential, they aren't invincible. Today, we will give them a lesson."

This was deliberate on Qin Yu's part. He directly brought the Su family's threat to the Lin family into the open. The Lin family now had no choice - either trust him or wholly submit to the Su family. Clearly, he aimed to cut off the Su family's path.

"That idiot Su Chen, he's reached peak stupidity. Just wait; your Su family's demise is imminent." Originally, he had been pondering how to win over the Lin family. Unexpectedly, Su Chen delivered this golden opportunity right to him.

As long as he gains the Lin family's support, even if Lin Qingyan genuinely loves Su Chen, Qin Yu would forcibly make her his. At this moment, Qin Yu felt like the ultimate winner in life.
