Her heart beat which had just found its normal rhythm was back to losing its rate. 

Joanna wondered if the sound that she heard from behind the tree that she chose as her hiding place was coming from the creatures that drooled at her before. As the thought crossed her mind, Joanna's heart beat even more, imagining what had happened to the General's men and Lucy.

Joanna closed her eyes, taking a deep breath as guilt struck her. However, before the guilt penetrated deeply to the core, she opened her eyes as the smaller the distance of the coming sound toward her direction, she perceived that it was not the sound of footsteps that were made by animals.
