"So are you excited?" Iris asks. I look up from the homework I'm doing, "What are you talking about?" First she looks shocked then she rolls her eyes at me. "For tomorrow?" She supplies ever so helpfully, but this did not in fact help. I give her a questioning look because I am still very lost. "Your birthday. It's not every day our girl turns seventeen."
I blink suddenly realizing that she's right, it is my birthday tomorrow. "I completely forgot with everything that's been going on," I confess. She gives me a quick squeeze, "Oh sweetie I'm sorry." I give a small bark of laughter. "You have nothing to be sorry for. You remembered without me reminding you." Iris smiles almost teasingly and it makes me uneasy, when she speaks I know why, "How could I forget after last year?" I groan and cover my face, "Don't remind me. I thought we agreed not to talk about that again." Iris smiles wickedly, "No, you agreed and I chose to ignore you." Lovely, she found a loophole.
